Chapter 35: The most perfect mother
If this person wasn’t Cheng Mei, then who could it be?
More importantly, why would she infiltrate the Black team?
As Wen Jianyan walked forward, he pondered carefully in his mind.
Lin Qing?
If it were Lin Qing, her appearing to take her younger brother out of danger would actually make sense.
Although Wen Jianyan had lied about being her ex-boyfriend, if it really was Lin Qing, it wouldn’t be a big problem.
As a ghost, she not only gave her brother the advice to “run” on the second basement floor but also provided a Hard-level hidden item.
More importantly, based on the conclusion Wen Jianyan had drawn in the maternity department on the third floor, she must have opposed the hospital’s entire inhumane, terrifying plan, which was why she died.
Suddenly, Wen Jianyan stopped in his tracks.
He looked at the familiar, cold corridor before him, and the operating rooms stretching out into the distance one by one, immediately realizing his current location.
Fourth floor.
Although Wen Jianyan hadn’t counted exactly how long he had been walking downwards, the place he stopped should have been the boundary between the third and second floors.
But…
After leaving the stairwell, he had arrived at the fourth floor.
If one were to ask which floor Wen Jianyan feared the most right now, it would undoubtedly be this one.
After all, the ghost spawned here was the only one that truly countered the ghost infants. It was also an adjustment made by the instance to counteract his rule-breaking behavior after the difficulty was increased.
Recalling what had happened here previously, Wen Jianyan felt his stomach begin to cramp in pain again.
This was truly terrible…
He had used up almost all his items, the points he had on hand had just been fed to the apple seedling, and the other team members, having experienced the Red team’s pursuit and interception, were probably also stretched to their limits.
Could “Cheng Mei” be Lin Qing?
Wen Jianyan didn’t dare to bet on this possibility.
Moreover, even if it really was Lin Qing, he couldn’t guarantee one hundred percent that after death, she was still well-intentioned toward humans.
However, there was one thing he could guarantee.
This guy was definitely coming for him.
After all, there were plenty of fire escapes in this hospital. To happen to bump into his teammates while going downstairs was absolutely no coincidence.
Su Cheng lowered his voice: “By the way, that Epic-level hidden item should be on you, right?”
“Yes, as long as we hide well next, once the hour is up, we win.”
Wen Jianyan nodded and said in a normal tone without changing his expression, “How about this, why don’t we rest on this floor for a bit?”
Cheng Mei, at the back of the group, spoke up weakly, “In that case, I actually know a place where we can stay for a while. It should be very safe.”
Su Cheng was surprised: “Really?”
Wen Jianyan turned to look at Cheng Mei, smiling pleasantly: “Is that so? Then we’ll trouble you to lead the way!”
“Mm, okay.”
Cheng Mei nodded. She walked at the very front of the group, leading the others deep into the corridor.
Wen Jianyan inconspicuously slowed his pace, little by little falling to the very back of the group, and then, seizing the moment—
He turned and ran!
Aside from lying, what he was best at was running away.
Whether the lie could deceive people didn’t matter. The most important thing was to learn how to retreat unscathed.
Judging from the other party’s behavior of guiding and rescuing the Black team members, “Cheng Mei” didn’t pose much of a threat to the others; it was more about using them to lower his guard.
He carried the aggro of the entire instance on himself. After separating, the survival probability of Su Cheng and the others would actually increase.
The young man’s figure was agile and light, his footsteps as brisk as a cat’s. Even on such a floor, he didn’t make a single sound.
Even Su Cheng and the Mohawk guy didn’t notice that their group was unknowingly short of one person.
Suddenly, “Cheng Mei” stopped in her tracks.
“What’s wrong?” the Mohawk guy asked in confusion.
“Cheng Mei’s” neck drooped as if it had lost its support, and a strange “cluck cluck” laugh spilled from her throat: “Really… this guy is too sensitive.”
Her head rotated a full one hundred and eighty degrees. Beneath her skewed collar, hideous black stitches were revealed, snaking across her deadly pale skin as if her head had been sewn onto her neck.
“Cheng Mei” wore a bizarre smile, but the voice that came out of her mouth belonged to a man:
“I really underestimated him.”
Wen Jianyan gritted his teeth and sprinted toward the stairwell as fast as he could.
However, as soon as he entered the stairwell, the scene before him flashed. Bright lights and an empty, silent corridor reappeared. Operating rooms stretched into the distance one by one, as if waiting for him.
Damn it, it’s a ghost wall.
The difficulty of this instance has definitely been adjusted again!!!!!
“Cluck cluck”…
A bizarre sound echoed from the end of the corridor. The sound of dripping blood reverberated in his ears, and an extremely strange figure appeared in the distance. The joints of its arms and legs seemed to have been severed and twisted in the opposite directions, approaching with sticky, squelching footsteps.
Wen Jianyan’s face paled, and he subconsciously took two steps back.
Just then, the figure of “Cheng Mei” appeared in the corridor behind him.
Her head drooped as if unsupported, the joints all over her body twisted grotesquely. The corners of her mouth were raised high, wearing a bizarre smile, and a “cluck cluck” laugh came from her throat:
“Did you really think you could run away?”
Even if I can’t run, I still have to run!
You expect me to just let you catch me?
Caught in a pincer attack from both sides, Wen Jianyan gritted his teeth and had no choice but to dash toward the only utility room in the corridor.
“Bang!” He slammed the door shut heavily, then grabbed a mop from inside the utility room and jammed it tightly against the door handle. Although the hope of this working was slim… he didn’t seem to have anything else he could do.
However, strangely, after he closed the door, there was absolutely no movement outside. Instead, it became dead silent, as if everything had vanished.
In the narrow space, only his rapid panting could be heard.
“Wuwu, wuwuwu!”
Sensing their natural enemy, the ghost infants huddled shivering behind Wen Jianyan. Their little purplish-blue hands tightly gripped the hem of his clothes, all of them crying in fear:
“Mommy, what do we do, Mommy?”
Babies, your mommy doesn’t know what to do either!
Wen Jianyan felt a dull ache begin in his stomach again.
Suddenly, his gaze fell on a corner of the wall, and he involuntarily froze for a moment.
This place wasn’t entirely a utility room; strictly speaking, it should be considered a workspace for the cleaning staff.
A duty roster was pasted on the wall, and one of the faces on it looked exceptionally familiar to Wen Jianyan.
He took a few steps closer and, using the light seeping in through the crack in the door, carefully examined the photo and the name below it.
Zhang Hua.
So it was him…
A look of sudden realization dawned on Wen Jianyan’s face.
If you sewed the eyes and mouth of this face shut, it should be the corpse he saw in the third morgue on the first basement floor.
If that person was a cleaner in the hospital, it would coincide perfectly with the conclusion he drew from the corpse.
But a new question arose.
Why did this cleaner die? He wasn’t Lin Qing, and he wasn’t deeply involved with the hospital’s secrets. Unless…
The grisly face of the corpse flashed through his mind.
Eyes sewn shut, unable to see.
Mouth sewn shut, unable to speak.
Could it be… he knew something he shouldn’t have known?
Wen Jianyan took another step forward, his eyes hastily sweeping over the time below the duty roster—
The tag on the corpse stated Zhang Hua’s time of death: April 20th at 2:00 AM. Where would Zhang Hua have been at that time?
His gaze paused.
Ah…
April 20, 2014, Night Shift, Zhang Hua, Assigned Floor: Fifth Floor.
The Director’s Office.
Just then, bizarre rustling sounds came from overhead.
Deep in thought, Wen Jianyan instinctively looked up.
Through a layer of wire mesh, a deadly pale, smiling face appeared inside the ventilation duct. The eyeballs were bulging under pressure, greedily looking down at the young man below. Behind Cheng Mei’s original voice, a man’s voice overlapped.
From beneath the head, wisps of black thread hung down from the ventilation duct, slowly winding their way towards him—
“Found you.”
My head… is so dizzy.
Wen Jianyan’s consciousness was blurred, as if bobbing up and down in bottomless waves, but he was still waking up little by little.
His eyelids fluttered slightly.
Wen Jianyan opened his eyes, but was forced to close them again due to the glaring light.
Physiological tears seeped out, dampening his eyelashes. Only then did his body’s senses slowly awaken in hindsight.
The first sense to awaken was smell.
An extremely heavy scent of blood lingered at the tip of his nose. Cold, damp air rushed into his nasal cavity, making his trachea ache.
Then came touch.
His wrists were secured by something metallic, clamped tightly above his head. The bone ached from the pressure, and the icy temperature seeped straight into his flesh, making him shiver.
Wen Jianyan took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down, and then slowly opened his eyes again.
The scene before him was extremely unfamiliar.
There were no windows, and the ceiling was very high. The walls were a cold, earthy brown. His eyes, irritated by the bright light, couldn’t see things in the distance clearly; he could only barely make out rows upon rows of shelves fully packed with specimens.
Various kinds of infants.
Animal, human, at different stages of development—everything was there.
There seemed to be some strange patterns on the floor, but from this angle, Wen Jianyan couldn’t see them clearly.
Not far from him, Cheng Mei and that monster from the fourth floor stood obediently side by side in place, like lifeless dolls, their limbs hanging down. Fine black threads sewed their bodies, necks, joints, and other areas together.
This place… was most likely the second underground floor.
Wen Jianyan’s heart sank.
He noticed that he was firmly strapped to a delivery bed. His hands were secured above his head, his legs were spread apart and propped up high on either side of the bed, and his ankles were similarly secured—
The exact same posture as Lin Qing when her throat was slit in the special scene.
“You’re awake.”
A person slowly walked over from the distance, holding the jar containing the withered infant in his hands.
To call him human wouldn’t be entirely accurate.
His body seemed to be pieced together from scraps of fabric of different colors. Countless thick, black stitches snaked across his body, like a doll that had been cut to pieces and barely cobbled back together. The stitch marks extended deep beneath his white lab coat.
“Did you know? All the ghost infants love you very much.”
His voice contained colors of excitement and fanaticism. The tone was very familiar; it was precisely the male voice that had just come out of “Cheng Mei’s” mouth.
The previous clues integrated in his mind, forming a clear picture.
Now, Wen Jianyan was very clear about the other party’s identity.
The birth of the ghost infants, Lin Qing’s death, Zhang Hua having his eyes and mouth sewn shut, and the puppet pieced together with body parts and needle and thread on the fourth floor—all of this was orchestrated single-handedly by this guy.
“Did you know? I have never seen them love a human so much, even to the point of begging me.”
The Director of Fukang Hospital leaned over the delivery bed, examining the human before him with an admiring tone:
“You… are the most perfect mother body I have ever seen.”
“Within you, the Mother of the World will reproduce her glory.”
Fukang Private General Hospital, first floor.
The lights flickered, the windows of the entire corridor rattled and shook, and the temperature of the air seemed to instantly drop over ten degrees. A massive power that made one instinctively feel fear was brewing and expanding in the darkness.
The small knife placed on the floor glinted with silver light, trembling slightly.
A drop of crimson blood was extracted, slowly rising and hovering in the air.
Then, it was slowly swallowed by the darkness.
Cheng Mi’s legs gave way, and he collapsed to the floor. His face was exceptionally pale, sweating profusely, looking as if he had aged ten years in an instant.
“How is it?”
Wen Ya asked nervously.
Cheng Mi raised his face, his voice hoarse and dry:
“It succeeded.”
“Don’t worry, we’re guaranteed to win.”
Cheng Mi let out two laughs with his hoarse voice:
“Within ten minutes, he will descend upon the NPC closest to the Black team captain, and then carry out his revenge.”

Dang. Wjy… Will probably look like a wife waiting for the husband to come home for a… pleasant surprise. 😭👌
Wow, that Red team is really something else… To shoot themselves in the foot so many times in such a short is a talent, right? Right! It’s less pitiful that way. Somehow.
Congratulations to the ML for finally getting his wife roght where he wants him!
I hope that the author doesn’t make it a habit of MC getting “saved” by the ML. But this is a good place to save him from MC’s own pits.
Was it really saving tho, if MC had to break his head over trying his best to pit his “saviour” (again) afterwards 😂
Lotm got me traumatised of pregnant people…
