    Chapter 19.1: My good dog

Upon hearing the words “Critical Success,” a buzzing sound rang in Wen Jianyan’s ears. His mind went blank, and for a moment, he actually couldn’t react.

    “…”

    Ah?

    What?

    What succeeded?

The next second, the feeling of his waist being squeezed tightly successfully pulled Wen Jianyan back from his daze.

The man’s arm, covered in pitch-black runes, wrapped around his waist, pulling him tightly against his pale and solid chest with such force that it felt as if he was going to break every bone in Wen Jianyan’s body.

    “Ugh!”

Sharp canine teeth pierced his skin, leaving an even more brutal bite mark, lapping up every trace of the crimson blood seeping from the wound, sucking and biting ever more greedily.

    Wait? No, didn’t it succeed?

Why does it feel like something isn’t quite right…

In the other party’s suffocating embrace, Wen Jianyan’s vision went black, and a painful, muffled groan escaped his throat.

The terrifying feeling of his limbs slowly disappearing, being devoured bit by bit, was still continuing.

Wen Jianyan understood that he was still being “consumed.”

However, the speed was much slower than before. The other party seemed to be enjoying some rare delicacy, using the slowest speed to carefully savor the flesh and blood of the human in his arms bit by bit.

In comparison, the previous rapid sense of blankness and nothingness was simply like a blessing. The current slowness was far more torturous than before; he could even feel his skin, muscles, blood, and bones peeling off layer by layer, being possessed and assimilated inch by inch.

    It didn’t hurt, though.

But this bizarre and terrifying feeling still made Wen Jianyan’s scalp tingle and his blood run cold.

—This was fucking worse than before!

Wen Jianyan rolled his eyes in anger, preparing to abandon his manners and angrily shout curses at this stupid live broadcast room.

At this moment, the man raised his head.

His pitch-black, icy, flowing long hair hung down, spreading over his broad, pale shoulders and falling onto Wen Jianyan in strands, covering his entire body like a giant net.

He stared intently at the young man in front of him with those golden, beast-like, inhuman eyes, a greed and desire burning in their depths even stronger than before.

The tip of a crimson tongue darted out, suggestively licking across his lips, sweeping the bloodstains on his lips into his mouth, and tasting it carefully.

    “…!”

Wen Jianyan paused, seemingly suddenly thinking of something. He slightly widened his eyes, a look of sudden realization flashing in their depths.

    No, it indeed succeeded.

It was just that he had habitually applied human common sense and values to the evil spirit in front of him. Among humans, love meant cherishing, staying together, devotion, and not wanting to see the other person get hurt in any way.

However, to this kind of non-human entity, the meaning of “love” was different.

It was desire, possession, and destruction.

Precisely because of love, it was even more necessary to eat the existence they loved the most, letting the other party merge into one with them.

The moment he successfully understood the other party’s thought process, Wen Jianyan couldn’t help but feel a sudden chill.

    —Damn, what a pervert!

But this also meant that although his lie had become a fact, it didn’t help his current situation in the slightest.

At this moment, a flash of inspiration appeared in Wen Jianyan’s mind.

    But…

If he looked closely, his lie actually had an added modifier…

    In that case—

Wen Jianyan gritted his teeth, raised his gradually weakening arm, and using all his strength, forcefully slapped the man in front of him!

    “Slap!”

The clear sound echoed in the dark space.

    “…”

The man’s face was struck and turned slightly to the side. From Wen Jianyan’s angle, he could only see the other’s beautifully contoured jawline and falling pitch-black long hair.

    “You dog, let me go.”

The human youth was in a disadvantaged position, the vast majority of his body firmly confined and unable to break free. His face was pale, his chest heaving rapidly due to exhaustion, carrying a breathtaking sense of fragility in his brows and eyes.

    “Or is it to say…”

Wen Jianyan gritted his teeth, his amber eyes narrowing slightly, looking down from on high, like an arrogant god looking down at the creation at his feet, saying word by word: “Do you no longer recognize me as your master?”

    “My good dog?”

The air seemed to fall into stagnation.

The darkness in the space surged and undulated, the shadows fluctuating wildly, as if as violent as their master’s emotions.

Time ticked by minute by minute.

The man slowly turned his face back, using those icy golden eyes to tightly lock onto Wen Jianyan’s figure.

Under the other party’s gaze, Wen Jianyan’s heart was in his throat, and even his fingertips began to tremble slightly.

Just as his heart sank bit by bit—the bindings on his body disappeared.

The vanished warmth gradually returned to his body, and the sensation in his limbs slowly awakened.

Wen Jianyan froze first, then a burst of ecstasy filled his heart.

    Good!

    He bet right!

Wen Jianyan quickly raised his head and glanced at the countdown not far away.

The time limit of the lie had twenty-five seconds left to end.

The bodily fluid exchange task had twelve seconds left to complete.

Wen Jianyan looked at the man in front of him and said in a lofty, unquestionable commanding tone:

    “Send me back to land.”

The pitch-black space split open with a crack.

The cold, damp wind, carrying the smell of fishy water, slowly blew in from outside. Wen Jianyan quickly and imperceptibly cast a glance outside. That’s right, it was Decai Middle School.

    “Very good.”

    The youth smiled slightly.

The next second, he leaned in, his slender, fair fingers pinching the man’s jaw, forcing him to raise his head, and leaned down to kiss him like granting charity.

Warm, soft human lips covered his, the tip of his tongue forcefully licking into the other’s icy teeth, the action sweeping over like a storm.

A heavy metallic scent of blood spread between their lips and tongues.

One second, two seconds, three seconds…

Twelve seconds passed in a flash.

    [Ding! The task is completed!]

The system’s mechanical notification sound rang in his ears.

Wen Jianyan released the other, panting slightly from the long kiss.

He saw the man’s golden eyes widen slightly, staring at him almost blankly and at a loss.

Although he didn’t like men, but… kissing him was surprisingly not too bad.

A careless smile rose on the young man’s lips. He patted the man’s cheek with his palm and said wickedly:

“A reward for you, my good dog.”

After saying that, he turned around, as if afraid of being caught, and darted out like a rabbit!

Wen Jianyan took a deep breath, leaped up, and jumped! His entire person disappeared into the crack.

His movements were nimble and fast, without any hesitation.

Su Cheng stood blankly by the lake. Just a few minutes ago, he had watched with his own eyes as pale arms reached out from under the black water lake and dragged Wen Jianyan into the lake. After a brief churning, the lake surface quickly calmed down, as if the thrilling scene just now was merely an imagination in his mind.

    …What happened?

    He was a bit dazed.

The mechanical sound of the task completion seemed to still echo in his ears. Su Cheng’s current account balance was enough for him to survive the remaining survival time. He had a certain understanding of the entire instance, and even without teammates, he should be able to clear it smoothly.

Even without that scammer who had offended the entire instance, his chances of survival could be greatly improved.

But for some reason, Su Cheng just felt it was somewhat unbelievable.

That scammer who had emerged unscathed from so many life-and-death moments, who never spoke a word of truth yet always handled things with ease, just died like this?

    How is that possible?

More and more shadows were pouring out of the teaching building, and some had even gathered by the lake. The best thing Su Cheng should do now was to stay away from this dangerous area. Reason told him that he should return to the dormitory building now. Although the old witch was there, the rest of the ghosts had disappeared thanks to Wen Jianyan’s efforts. Relatively speaking, it would be the safest place on the entire campus.

    But…

Su Cheng bit his lower lip tightly, standing in place hesitating. For some reason, he just had a strong premonition.

—It was impossible for Wen Jianyan to die.

He took a deep breath and decided to keep waiting.

Time passed minute by minute, and the lake surface remained smooth as a mirror, without the slightest change. Only the shadowy figures gathered more and more. Su Cheng awkwardly dodged several times, but the remaining survival time on his ID card was still bitten off by a large chunk.

Could it be… his premonition was wrong?

Su Cheng was a bit unsure now.

Just as he fell into intense self-doubt, suddenly, a crack abruptly split open in the void before him without any warning. The next second, a familiar figure jumped out of it.

He rolled on the ground, then jumped up, covered in dirt.

    It was Wen Jianyan!

The moment he saw the other’s face, Su Cheng’s eyes widened slightly, a flash of joy passing through their depths.

    He really didn’t die!

Wen Jianyan was also slightly taken aback when he saw Su Cheng. He clearly didn’t expect the other party to have been waiting outside for him all this time. However, he quickly reacted: “Quick, quick, quick! Go, go, go!”

The young man leaped up, skillfully grabbing Su Cheng’s arm, and ran into the distance without slowing down.

At this time, the familiar system sound rang in the instance:

[Decai Middle School main quest has been completed, unlock progress reached 100%, instance is closing…]

    [10, 9, 8…]

Wait, there are clearly only ten seconds left before it ends, so why run so desperately?

Seeing the familiar look of this scammer running like his butt was on fire, an ominous premonition suddenly arose in Su Cheng’s heart.

He turned his head and cast a glance behind him.

The lake water seemed to boil, and piercing screams rang out from all directions. Pale corpses struggled in the black water, seemingly trying to flee into the distance.

The shadowy figures that had been slowly gathering towards the lake suddenly scattered, scrambling over each other in an attempt to run away.

It was almost as if… they were hiding from something.

Pitch-black shadows spread out, submerging everything in an instant—the sky, the ground, and the lake water. Like a black hole in the physical sense, whether sound, light, or physical entities, everything turned to ashes in the blink of an eye.

In that unfathomable shadow, a human figure emerged.

    “…!”

Su Cheng’s pupils instantly contracted, the hair on his back standing on end. A strong sense of fear washed over him, making him immediately realize where the danger came from.

    Ahhhhhhhhh fuck!

    What is that thing?!

With a pale face, he hurriedly withdrew his gaze and subconsciously sped up.

During the escape, Wen Jianyan’s profile entered his vision.

    Su Cheng: “…”

I fucking knew this was caused by you, you dog of a scammer!

    [4, 3, 2…]

It was clearly only a few short seconds, but the chilling shadows had already struck from behind, as if they could swallow both of them whole in the next second—

    [1]

    The countdown reached zero.

    [Live broadcast ended.]

The icy mechanical voice echoed in everyone’s mind. The next second, Su Cheng’s vision went dark, and he lost consciousness.
