Chapter 19
The brutal superpower that dominates heaven and earth
With countless thunderous booms, hundreds of steel gates slammed down, instantly sealing the entire Supervision Office building into an airtight steel coffin.
The entire street was urgently cleared, and all supervisors evacuated the building. The open ground descended into utter chaos. Chen Miao pushed past his subordinates and came running, looking like a crazed golden retriever. Even from a distance, one could see two streams of wide noodle-like tears flying behind him. “Senior, it’s so good you’re not dead!! Wooo wooo wooo—”
Shen Zhuo’s right wrist was bent at a horrifying angle. He was gasping for breath, half-supported by Bai Sheng as they stood in front of a car. On the other side, the captain of the security team held a satellite phone, asking with a tremor in his voice, “S-Supervisor, what do we do now? The two intruders have been sealed in the first basement level. Should we report this to the International Supervision General Administration immediately?”
Shen Zhuo scolded him mercilessly, “Report what? That the Shenhai City Supervision Office was home-invaded by a cripple in a wheelchair?”
The security captain looked like he wanted to commit seppuku on the spot. “But… but…”
“Activate the level-one emergency protocol! Evacuate the residents, and notify the military district that we’re conducting a drill! Go, now!”
The security captain immediately jumped up and ran off.
Bai Sheng inspected Shen Zhuo from head to toe. His eyes caught the bloodstain under the collar on the side of his neck, and he instantly became sensitive. “Who did this? How did you get hurt? When did this happen?”
Shen Zhuo said, “A dog bit me. What about you?”
Following his gaze, the stab wound on Bai Sheng’s chest went straight through. Thanks to the Witch’s healing ability and his own formidable S-class physique, the muscle had already healed, but the bloodstains were still a ghastly sight.
Bai Sheng didn’t seem too concerned about himself. “I just…”
Shen Zhuo said coolly, “Can an S-class gentleman really get himself into such a mess?”
“I was clearly…”
“Now you know why you can’t get an official position, don’t you?”
Bai Sheng: “…………”
Bai Sheng’s face was expressionless. He gripped Shen Zhuo’s wrist with one hand and pointed to his own stab wound with the other for confirmation. “You saw it?”
Shen Zhuo said impatiently, “What’s with the nonsense? I’m asking you precisely because I saw it. Otherwise, how could I—”
Bai Sheng roared, “You’ve already seen my abs, so why won’t you marry me?!” Then, with lightning speed, he gave a hard twist!
With a crisp, clear crack, Shen Zhuo’s wrist joint was reset. A sharp gasp was swiftly smothered by Bai Sheng’s palm.
After finishing his call, the security captain hid off to the side, his heart pounding, and asked in a low voice, “Is it really okay for our Supervisor Shen to treat Mr. Bai like this? What if he gets angry from the humiliation…”
“It’s fine. Broaden your perspective,” Chen Miao said numbly. “Marrying Bai-ge isn’t a bad option, either.”
“Supervisor!” Someone from the security department strode up, holding a tablet. “We’ve pulled up the surveillance footage from inside the building. Take a look!”
Shen Zhuo, his face impassive, pulled his hand out of Bai Sheng’s palm, which was feigning heartache. He took the tablet. The screen showed a real-time view of the building’s first basement level.
There was no sound from the surveillance, only the image of the sealed-off corridor. Noda Shunsuke looked panicked and terrified, speaking hastily in Japanese, likely trying to persuade Rong Qi to leave immediately. However, Rong Qi only clutched his profusely bleeding chest and gave a decisive wave of his hand.
“How is he not dead even after that?” the security captain asked in shock.
“It’s not that easy. He can come back to life even after being burned to ashes,” Bai Sheng said, watching the screen. He stroked his chin thoughtfully. “But I didn’t expect this guy would really rather take that hit than use the backlash on Supervisor Shen… By the way, you predicted this, didn’t you?”
Shen Zhuo stared at the monitor, ignoring him.
“You deliberately shot at that Rong fellow to test his bottom line in the first instance, discovered they were indeed afraid of you dying, and that’s why you dared to go for his heart?” Bai Sheng gave Shen Zhuo a sidelong glance, nudging him playfully with his shoulder. “I was wondering why you were being so fiercely resolute. A beautiful calculation, Supervisor.”
“This is bad,” Shen Zhuo said softly.
“What?”
Shen Zhuo gestured with his chin towards the bottom corner of the monitor. “We forgot someone when we evacuated.”
Bai Sheng asked, “Who?” He then took a closer look.
—On the surveillance footage, from an open door at the far end of the corridor, a blood-red, deformed figure slowly crawled out. It was Liu Sanji.
“Save… save me…”
“Save me…”
In the basement corridor, Noda Shunsuke sucked in a cold breath, staring in horror at the shocking monster on the floor.
Liu Sanji no longer looked human. Large patches of his skin had sloughed off and were ulcerating. His limbs were at least twice the length of a normal person’s, his hands and feet dangling on the ground like long, thin, blood-red hoses, dragging a long trail of blood behind him.
“Mr. R-Rong…” The A-class mark on the back of his hand was glaringly clear, but his tone was slurred and desperate. “Please…”
Noda Shunsuke subconsciously took a half-step back. “This is—”
“Gene chain rupture,” Rong Qi said calmly, his voice hoarse as he leaned back in his wheelchair, clutching his bleeding chest.
“I can grant an ability user a secondary evolution, forcing a D-class to skip ranks to A, but I cannot change their inherent genetic limit. Once the power I bestow upon them exceeds the limit they can bear, it leads to this terrible consequence of being neither human nor ghost.”
“Do you know what the biggest lie in this world is?” Rong Qi leaned down, staring into Liu Sanji’s cloudy eyes. “—’All men are born equal.'”
Liu Sanji’s unfocused pupils widened involuntarily.
“From prokaryotic cells to Dickinsonia, from Gigantopithecus to modern Homo sapiens, every step of Earth’s evolution has been filled with countless unjust coincidences. Only the strongest genes by nature can continue their race. Evolutionists are the absolute superiors to humans, but the vast majority within the evolutionists are the low-powered C and D-classes.”
“I once wanted to build an army where every member had undergone a secondary evolution to A-class, but I could never solve the problem of gene chain rupture. I thought it was an unsolvable problem, until I later discovered an ordinary human.”
Rong Qi paused, then said softly, word by word, “—Shen Zhuo.”
“Research that disregards ethics, technology that transcends the era, breaking genetic limits at will through some unknown potion, and minimizing side effects to the greatest extent… No one knows how he did it.”
This was the first time Noda Shunsuke had heard any of this. He was completely stunned.
“Bring Shen Zhuo over to the side of the evolutionists, and all of our kind can safely undergo secondary evolution,” Rong Qi said softly, gazing into the vast emptiness. “We will completely eliminate the ants and dominate the evolutionary direction of the human race.”
“Cough cough… cough cough cough!” Liu Sanji violently choked up large mouthfuls of blood, reaching up with all his strength, letting out a final wail. “Please… please!”
Rong Qi let out a barely audible sigh and looked down at him. “I can’t save you.”
“…Save me, I’ll do anything, anything!…”
“But I can grant you eternal life.”
Liu Sanji froze, utterly incredulous, then elation flooded his heart. “Yes, yes! Thank you, thank you, Mr. Rong—”
The next moment, Rong Qi gently placed a hand on top of his head, and Liu Sanji’s voice cut off abruptly.
His expression was still frozen, but his flesh and bones began to melt rapidly, emitting the strange, faint glow of a meteorite. Then, that faint blue light seemed to be drawn by some strange suction, rapidly surging towards Rong Qi, as if rushing to return to its source. In just a few seconds, it was completely absorbed.
—Liu Sanji, who had been alive on the floor just a moment ago, had vanished in the blink of an eye, not even a trace of flesh and blood remaining.
At the same time, the bleeding from Rong Qi’s empty heart cavity gradually stopped. The meteorite’s light flashed all over his body, then concentrated on his knees.
He let out a long breath, and a moment later, he pushed himself up from the armrests of his wheelchair and stood up!
Noda Shunsuke was both shocked and overjoyed. “Mr. Rong!”
Outside the building, behind the surveillance screen, everyone’s face turned pale. “What’s happening?” “He… he evolved again?”
It wasn’t apparent when he was sitting in the wheelchair, but now that he was standing, it was clear that Rong Qi was actually quite tall, even a little taller than Noda Shunsuke. His black shirt was tucked into matching trousers. With his fine brows, bright eyes, broad shoulders, and long legs, he exuded a quiet, hidden oppressiveness.
He took his first step forward, which was slightly stiff from disuse, but then the muscles throughout his body adjusted to their peak state. His steps became fluid and natural, and an invisible power radiated from him, surging in all directions.
“You’re welcome,” he said, his voice low and gentle as he looked down at the last remaining bloodstain on the floor beneath him.
Then, with a swing of his palm, a huge force, like a missile, instantly tore through a dozen steel gates and blasted through the building’s outer wall!
Like a sudden clap of thunder, the open ground outside the building was instantly torn apart. Everyone was thrown to the ground by the massive explosion. Then, Rong Qi’s nightmarish figure appeared in the billowing black smoke.
The power he had absorbed from Liu Sanji was only enough for him to stand, not enough to regenerate his heart, so his left chest was still a horrifying cavity. But the grievous wound didn’t seem to affect him much. Everyone could feel the power around him still intensifying rapidly. His dark, heavy eyes stared straight at Shen Zhuo.
“Supervisor Shen…”
BOOM!
Bai Sheng waved his hand, and a massive fireball instantly engulfed Rong Qi. He then grabbed Shen Zhuo. “Run, run, run, run, run—”
Shen Zhuo had probably never been this cooperative in his life. Snatched into Bai Sheng’s arms, he appeared on a telephone pole the next moment, and in the blink of an eye, they had whistled away for dozens of yards. Amidst the howling wind rushing past, he shouted, “Where are you taking me?”
Bai Sheng roared back, “To find a deserted place to have a good chat with your admirer!”
“Stop this nonsense. What do you mean, admirer? He…”
“If he’s not an admirer, why does he keep following you around? Do you owe him money, or is it unresolved feelings?!”
“I don’t even know this person! I…”
Before he could finish, a flash of fire appeared. Rong Qi had materialized, wrapped in soaring black smoke, staring coldly at them. He raised his hand.
However, before he could unleash his big move, Bai Sheng, without a word, smashed another huge fireball down on him. The thousand-degree heat turned half the sky red. Then, amidst the bright light and fierce flames, he grabbed Shen Zhuo and shot towards the city outskirts, roaring into Shen Zhuo’s ear, “—Tell me! Were you two dating before?!”
Shen Zhuo said, “…I’ve never dated anyone! Stop going crazy at a time like this!”
BOOM—
A massive explosion sounded in mid-air, and the ground shook violently.
Ahead in the sky, a huge fireball, more than ten meters high, rapidly extinguished. Rong Qi reappeared from the thick smoke, looking down at the two of them, silent, his gaze cold and heavy.
Thanks to their frantic escape, they had finally gotten far away from the bustling downtown of Shenhai and arrived at a desolate wasteland far from the highway, where people were a rare sight.
Bai Sheng stopped, pushing Shen Zhuo behind him. No one could see that the muscles of his back and shoulders under his black clothes were stretched to their absolute limit, but his tone betrayed no abnormality. “Get behind me. Close your eyes in a bit and don’t make a sound.”
Shen Zhuo wanted to step out, but Bai Sheng’s grip was not something an ordinary person could shake. “Can you handle him alone?”
Bai Sheng scoffed. “What are you thinking, baby? I can even handle you. You think I can’t handle that cripple?”
“Bai—Sheng,” Rong Qi said coldly from a short distance away.
Perhaps because he was standing, the gentle and reserved shell he wore in the wheelchair seemed to have been partially stripped away, revealing a bit of his oppressive true self. “What are you doing running out to the wilderness? Afraid of people seeing you die?”
Bai Sheng let out a hot breath, looked up at Rong Qi, and after a moment, gave a strange smile.
“Weren’t you just asking what my big move was?”
Rong Qi narrowed his eyes. Bai Sheng raised the index finger of his left hand, then opened his palm. A rotating current of air surged violently in his palm.
“I don’t know how you evolved to be like this, but with your kind of immortality ability, any other S-class today might have fallen to you. Give you a bit more time to evolve, and maybe you could go straight to Switzerland and flatten the entire International Supervision General Administration.”
“You’re just extremely unlucky that I was the first one you ran into.”
The corner of Bai Sheng’s blood-stained mouth curved into a murderous arc. “It’s fine. Just be more careful in your next life.”
The airflow suddenly flashed with a cold light, instantly shooting out in all directions. Even the rustling mountain forest abruptly froze. The entire land fell into a deathly silence, like a tomb.
It was as if the only thing left in the world was the blindingly bright sphere of light spinning rapidly in Bai Sheng’s palm, which reflected the finally subtle change in Rong Qi’s expression.
“So that’s how it is. It’s in your hands…”
“…A causality law weapon.”
A person’s evolutionary direction is linked to their personality, subconscious, and mental state. Nielsen had a strong desire for control, so his evolved ability was destructive and suppressive. Fu Chen had a gentle personality, so he evolved the defensive and counter-attacking Upright and Inverted Crosses. Many people thought that Bai Sheng, as a carefree, young, wealthy heir who was cheerful, sunny, and had a good personality, would likely have an evolution direction focused on psychic abilities.
But they were clearly wrong.
A “cheerful, sunny person with a good personality” could not possibly evolve such a brutal ability—
Causality Law, one of the strongest philosophical-type weapons, could directly erase an enemy’s existence, making them completely disappear from history, even erasing the identity information, family ties, and social value they had created since birth.
This kind of supreme ability, if used to its full potential, could even overwhelm all other S-classes, a truly helium-flash-level ultimate skill. But all things in the world must follow the principle of balance. An overly powerful ability must also be accompanied by a fatal flaw—
“The Causality Law has only an 11% success rate. Once it goes out of control, it evolves into an indiscriminate mass slaughter, turning a 3000-meter radius into a lifeless zone.”
Rong Qi gazed at the terrifyingly bright sphere of light in mid-air and said softly, “No wonder. I was just wondering why you ran out to this wilderness in the first place.”
On the distant overpass, cars occasionally sped by. Further away, the silhouettes of tall buildings spread out under the sky, forming a vast metropolis.
People lived their normal, peaceful lives, completely unaware that they had just narrowly avoided a cataclysm.
“Come over to my side, Supervisor Shen.” Rong Qi’s gaze passed over Bai Sheng, reaching out a hand to Shen Zhuo from afar. “The probability of the Causality Law succeeding is only one in nine. If it goes out of control in a moment, the user himself will have a hard time escaping, and he definitely won’t risk saving anyone else. Both you and I will be buried here.”
The air solidified. A deathly silence pressed down on the wilderness. The clear light spun rapidly in Bai Sheng’s palm.
“Mr. Bai came to your side with a purpose from the beginning, haven’t you realized? Your being alive is the biggest obstacle for him. If you die, he can take complete control of Shenhai.”
Rong Qi stared into Shen Zhuo’s eyes, holding out his palm to him. “The ants of this world are not on the same side as you, Supervisor Shen. Stand with me, and I will lead you to create a future of absolute equality for all, without war or turmoil.”

We finally got to see ml’s powerrr. In a sense, it still fits ml.
Uwahh, Rong Qi is so obsessed with getting mc to turn sides. So he’s that type of villain… Mc with his personality, I find it hard to imagine Rong Qi succeeding.
Idk why exactly but I got chills when Rong Qi basically said the same thing as Shen Zhou, about humanity not being equal because of their genes being different. I felt so chilling to see how they share this same viewpoint
Ah, so he’s another Sunday. It’s okay, once he inevitably looses, I’ll take him.
He’s so pathetic he turned to manipulation, that is really a last-ditch effort ain’t it🤦♀️
whoa… so that’s why he learned philosophy 😱
