WTNL Chapter 732

Chapter 732: Epilogue (3)

Survivors

[Part 1]

In a certain group chat named “Survivors”.

Wen Ya Lilith: @AllMembers Have you guys seen Sis Tang?
Cute Little Cake: Huh? What happened? Hasn’t she been staying with you this whole time?
Wen Ya Lilith: Yes, but when I woke up today she was gone, and I can’t reach her via text either.
Heartless Fiend Proud Blood Emperor (Reborn from the Ashes Edition): What, did she get kidnapped?
Cute Little Cake: One, stop making sarcastic remarks. Two, change your ID.
Heartless Fiend Proud Blood Emperor (Reborn from the Ashes Edition): Do you have the right to lecture me, Ji Guan? Have you looked at what kind of trash ID you’re using? Isn’t it disgusting?
Chen Mo (Please contact for post-war reconstruction matters, offline during non-working hours): @Wen Ya lilith Don’t panic just yet. To what extent has Orange Candy recovered now?
Wen Ya Lilith: Her height has recovered to about a ten-year-old’s size. Her memory recovery is still incomplete; she has about 3-6 hours of lucidity every day.
Hugo: Then there’s no need to worry.
Dark Fire – Qi Qian: With such a short window, we still need to worry a bit. I have connections on my end; whether it’s checking surveillance cameras or arranging a search and rescue team, it can be done.
Bai: Do you need help?
Heartless Fiend Proud Blood Emperor (Reborn from the Ashes Edition): Fine, since you’re all joining in, I guess I can join the fun too.
AAA Honest Management Various Businesses Welcome Inquiries: No need for now.
Chen Mo (Please contact for post-war reconstruction matters, offline during non-working hours): [Smiling Emoji] Oh, so you’ve stopped playing dead? President?
AAA Honest Management Various Businesses Welcome Inquiries: …Sorry about that, I haven’t checked my phone these past two days.
Chen Mo (Please contact for post-war reconstruction matters, offline during non-working hours): [Smiling Emoji] Is it only these past two days that you haven’t checked? Whenever someone looks for you for work, you act like you’re dead, but when others ask you out to go shopping, eat, or play games, don’t you reply instantly?
AAA Honest Management Various Businesses Welcome Inquiries:
[Crying yellow bean emoji]
Wen Ya lilith: Chen Mo, you can interrogate him later. @AAA Honest Management Various Businesses Welcome Inquiries Explain yourself clearly first, why is there no need for now?
AAA Honest Management Various Businesses Welcome Inquiries: She sent me a message before she left.
[Chat screenshot attached]
[Don’t Fucking Touch Me: Going for a walk for a bit.]
Wen Ya Lilith: …Just that sentence? What else? Did she say where she was going? When she’ll be back?
AAA Honest Management Various Businesses Welcome Inquiries: Didn’t say. But I think she should have her reasons, let’s give her a few days. If there’s still no news, I’ll have Wu Zhu look for her.
Wu Zhu: en. (pinyin for ‘mm/yes’)
Cute Little Cake: …Fuck! When did he get in here?
AAA Honest Management Various Businesses Welcome Inquiries: A while ago, I pulled him in.
Dark Fire – An Xin: It looks like he doesn’t know how to type characters?
AAA Honest Management Various Businesses Welcome Inquiries: Yeah… he’s learning [Sweating yellow bean emoji]
Dark Fire – Qi Qian: …Then can he read the contents of the group chat?
Wu Zhu: en.
AAA Honest Management Various Businesses Welcome Inquiries: It’s not that he’s illiterate, he’s just not used to modern human smart technology.
Heartless Fiend Proud Blood Emperor (Reborn from the Ashes Edition): Don’t play your art of language here. Just say he’s a boomer and be done with it. You might as well just get him a flip phone for the elderly.
Dark Fire – An Xin: By the way, are you two… using matching couple avatars?
AAA Honest Management Various Businesses Welcome Inquiries: …Oh, we really are, I just noticed.
Hugo: Not very good-looking.
Bai: It’s actually okay.
Heartless Fiend Proud Blood Emperor (Reborn from the Ashes Edition): Aren’t you two being a bit too polite? I’ll tell the truth: it’s just pure ugly.

Wen Jianyan put down his phone and looked up at Wu Zhu sitting beside him:
“Is this what you were doing with my phone last night?”
He raised an eyebrow: “You learned how to use this thing pretty quickly, huh.”

Wu Zhu guiltily looked away.

Three minutes later.
The two avatars in the group chat suddenly turned shining golden.

AAA Honest Management Various Businesses Welcome Inquiries: @AllMembers Look, doesn’t it look much better?
Wen Ya lilith:
Cute Little Cake:
Dark Fire – Qi Qian: How about changing it back?
Heartless Fiend Proud Blood Emperor (Reborn from the Ashes Edition): How about we just donate our eyes instead?
Wu Zhu: haokan. (pinyin for ‘good-looking’)
Heartless Fiend Proud Blood Emperor (Reborn from the Ashes Edition): …………Both of you, donate your eyes!!!!
Chen Mo (Please contact for post-war reconstruction matters, offline during non-working hours): Oh, still chatting? Seems like you’re very free. You have ten minutes to get to my office. This is your final warning [Smiling Emoji] President.
AAA Honest Management Various Businesses Welcome Inquiries: ……………Oh. Coming.

Nine minutes and forty-five seconds later.
The door to Chen Mo’s office was knocked on and opened.

Outside stood a droopy-headed Wen Jianyan.

“Oh, what an honor to have you grace us with your presence, President,” Chen Mo sat behind his desk, revealing a cold sneer. “You truly are a busy man, completely unreachable.”
Wen Jianyan: “…”
“You have to give me some time to adapt… my body needs to recover too…”

“Right, adapt, recover. Let me count, how long have you been back? Giving it a full count, it’s been at least a month, right? How many times have we met in total?” He slowly stood up, “Oh right, turns out it’s only been exactly once.”

Wen Jianyan: “…………….”
Chen Mo: “Don’t force me to settle old scores with you.”
Wen Jianyan: “…”

He walked into the office with a beaming face: “Oh my, Vice President has really worked hard recently! Come, come, come, you can rest assured and hand over any work to me! I promise to share your burdens!”

A few minutes later, the office door was pushed open.
The newcomer’s gaze fell on Wen Jianyan, raising an eyebrow in great surprise:
“Oh.”
“Rare guest.”

Chen Mo sneered: “A rare guest indeed.”
He tapped the desk with the tip of his pen: “Just put that document straight on his desk, let him handle it.”

Wen Jianyan gritted his teeth and glared at Qi Qian: “…”
You really know how to poke a sore spot!

After putting the document down, Qi Qian turned to leave, but before taking a few steps, he seemed to think of something:
“By the way, regarding Orange Candy, are you sure you don’t need my side’s help to keep an eye out?”

Indeed, Orange Candy’s lucid periods were much longer than before, but she would still occasionally revert to a child’s state.

“Don’t worry,” Wen Jianyan shrugged helplessly, his slender fingers twirling a pen. “Even if she doesn’t remember anything, the person who can actually do anything to her hasn’t even been born yet.”
He lowered his eyes. Beneath his thick eyelashes, a thoughtful light settled deep in his eyes.
“And besides, there’s him,” Wen Jianyan looked up, pointing his pen toward the side. “I have him constantly monitoring Orange Candy’s vital signs. If anything really happens, he will 100% be there in the first second.”

Wu Zhu took a moment to look up and replied: “Mm.”
After replying, he buried his head and continued to busy himself.

Qi Qian looked over curiously: “So what is he doing right now…?”
Wen Jianyan’s voice came from the other side: “Practicing handwriting.”
He propped his chin up: “Once he’s good at it, I can dump my work on him.”

Qi Qian: “…”
Talk about going to absolute extremes just to slack off.
He shook his head and left.

Wen Jianyan propped his chin up and spoke slowly.
“Compared to Orange Candy, I’m more worried about Wen Ya.”

For a moment, the rustling sound of the pen in the room stopped.
Chen Mo slowly put down his pen and looked up.
His expression was unusually heavy.

After a few seconds of silence, he looked at Wen Jianyan, somewhat unwilling to give up hope: “Are you sure it’s really…”

Wen Jianyan looked at him and slowly nodded.
Wu Zhu could stop an instance from collapsing and prevent consciousness from dissipating, but he couldn’t create something from nothing out of thin air.
Therefore, after the Nightmare was destroyed, the Dream Amusement Park disappeared along with it, leaving no trace.

Although Yun Bilan had been sending people to search for traces of the amusement park in the dead zones, everyone clearly knew the answer.
The hope was slim.

It turned out that in this world, besides life and death, there existed another distinct, uncrossable boundary line.
“Existence”, and “Disappearance”.

Wen Ya looked up at the empty room not far away.

This day was long expected.
Since that day, Orange Candy’s growth speed had become increasingly rapid.
Her appetite could almost rival two adults, and her arms and legs shot up like bamboo shoots, growing a segment in the blink of an eye. By now, to outsiders, she already looked almost like an eleven or twelve-year-old girl.

Although she maintained a child’s mind for more than half the time every day, she still occasionally revealed a thoughtful expression.
Presumably, it wouldn’t be long before she recovered her original perverse nature.
It was only normal for her to strut off then.

And for Wen Ya, no matter how you looked at it, this was a good thing.
An amnesiac Orange Candy was no less difficult to deal with than a non-amnesiac Orange Candy. Regardless of which state she was in, she was equally arbitrary, reckless, and extremely good at turning everything around her upside down. Staying with her was truly a headache and miserable beyond words.

“…”
Holding her phone in one hand and gripping the door with the other, Wen Ya looked at the smooth, tidy bed in front of her, looking as if no one had ever laid on it.

However, the expression on her face didn’t hold much joy, but rather looked somewhat…
Dazed.

Not far behind her, two portions of freshly made fried egg toast and porridge were still steaming on the table.
Wen Ya took a deep breath and put her phone back in her pocket. She turned and went to the table, gracefully and elegantly ate her portion of the breakfast, and placed the dirty plate in the sink.

Then she stood up and walked to the desk not far away.
She lowered her eyes, quietly looking at the tightly closed desk in front of her, not moving for a long time.

Finally, after a long half-minute passed, as if she had finally mentally prepared herself, she reached out and pulled the drawer open.
The drawer was very empty. Only a small paper doll lay quietly at the bottom.

Wen Ya picked it up and turned it over to the back.
On it was the message Yun Bilan had just sent over last night.

On the back, there were only two short words.
“I’m sorry.”
