Chapter 18

Oscar-winning Actor Supervisor Shen

A loud alarm rang out throughout the building, and all the on-duty staff in the control room immediately stood up. “What… what is that?!”

The situation inside the elevator was displayed on the surveillance screen. Shunsuke

Noda was holding a knife against Shen Zhuo’s throat from behind, even smiling at the camera with a grin that could send shivers down one’s spine.

One of the staff quickly picked up the phone. “Level 1 alert, 10th floor, elevator number 3. The supervisor is under attack by an evolutionist intruder!”

Rapid footsteps reverberated throughout the building, causing the ceiling above to tremble. It was the supervision office’s armed security team.

“—I despise killing, especially killing of my own kind.” Rong Qi averted his gaze, his voice steady and calm. “So, today, except for Mr. Bai, I give you all two options.”

Shui Ronghua and Chen Miao were stuck in the corridor, looking at each other with puzzled and suspicious eyes.

“First, stand by and do nothing. I guarantee that nothing bad will happen to you, no matter what happens next. Second, resist and stay, and you will eventually join Mr. Bai in death here.”

Rong Qi spread his arms.

His fingers were long and powerful, making the gesture quite elegant, and there was no trace of a bloodthirsty aura on him. “Now you can make your choice.”

Chen Miao found it unbelievable and could not help but take a step forward. “What nonsense are you talking about? You…”

“Step back,” Bai Sheng interjected.

“But, Bai-ge—”

“The security team isn’t coming for us, indicating that Shen Zhuo is already in their hands. So step back!”

The somewhat unserious aura around Bai Sheng completely disappeared. His profile’s contours became sharp and tense, with an undeniable air of determination.

Chen Miao came to a realization and swallowed hard. He whispered, “Bai-ge, be careful.” He then retreated cautiously with Shui Ronghua. They took a step back to the far end of the corridor, keeping their eyes on Rong Qi.

Only when they were out of sight did Bai Sheng return his gaze to Rong Qi, a silent black dagger flashing into existence in the palm of his hand.

“Who are you?”

Rong Qi casually pointed to the biochemistry lab. “See that over there?”

—In the biochemistry lab, there was the steel wire bed brought back from Quanshan County Health Center, sealed with the standards of a level 1 contaminated item. The humanoid charcoal marks on it were very clear.

“That’s me, or rather, that was me three years ago.” Rong Qi asked, “Any more questions? Feel free to ask before you die.”

The deserted ward was strangely quiet. Bai Sheng stared at Rong Qi without moving, and then he hooked the corner of his mouth. Within the shadows, his handsome features revealed a hint of hostility. “Although I have a lot of questions, but…”

In the air, a shadow appeared. It was Bai Sheng, whose movements were so quick that he almost vanished in place. When he reappeared, he was already in front of the wheelchair:

“But I don’t like to give villains the time for idle talk.”

Splat! Blood splattered.

Bai Sheng’s knife pierced Rong Qi’s chest, the tip of which even pierced the back of the wheelchair!

A splatter of blood sprayed out, reaching quite a distance.

The air solidified, and Rong Qi lowered his head. His expression was obscured by the shadows, and it took a long time before his shoulders shook slightly.

—He was actually laughing.

Chen Miao blurted out, “Not good.”

Rong Qi, with one hand grabbing the blade, looked up and smiled, asking, “Is this all you’ve got?”

Bai Sheng’s expression changed in an instant, but it was too late.

The next moment, Rong Qi exerted force, tossing him along with the knife several steps back. Bai Sheng didn’t even have time to react before an intense pain tore through his chest, and blood spurted out wildly.

An invisible force had pierced through his chest!

Thud.

Bai Sheng fell to one knee with one hand pressed against his chest, the veins on the back of his hand bulging amidst the blood.

He clenched his teeth and turned to face the wheelchair. The knife wound on Rong Qi’s chest was rapidly healing before his eyes, completely disappearing in a matter of seconds, as if everything that had just happened had never happened.

“—Injury backlash, a type of unending ability.”

Rong Qi looked down from above at Bai Sheng, his face tinged with regret. He pointed to his own throat: “If you had stabbed me here just now, I wouldn’t even have to bother killing you again.”

……

Ding dong. When the elevator doors opened, Shunsuke Noda emerged, holding Shen Zhuo hostage. Countless gun muzzles were aimed at them at the same time. “Don’t move!”

“Hands up!”

“Release the hostage!”

Everyone was on high alert, and the air was stretched to its limit. A spark could trigger an explosion.

“Have them step back.” Shunsuke Noda whispered into Shen Zhuo’s ear from behind. “You would not want your subordinates to see me disrespecting you in public, would you, beauty?”

“…,” Shen Zhuo was forced to tilt his head slightly and gesture toward the front.

The supervision office’s armed security team was a true high-level, high-firepower elite combat force. Their weapons were specially designed for evolutionists and were not typical military equipment. Under normal circumstances, such armed forces could not only deal with Shunsuke Noda, but even an S-class individual would suffer greatly.

However, no one dared to make the slightest move now, and they all stepped back slowly.

Shen Zhuo, with a knife at his throat, walked forward, seemingly restrained but mocking, “What, are you planning to walk me back to your lair on foot and then lure Bai Sheng over to kill him?”

Shunsuke Noda chuckled, “No need for that. Mr. Rong said that the reason we failed to bring Inspector Shen back last time was that we weren’t respectful and sincere enough. So, he decided to change his approach this time…”

He turned around and made his way to the corridor. Going downstairs led to the basement level.

“—After killing the most troublesome one, he would personally welcome you.”

…..

“Un… unending ability?” At the end of the corridor on the basement level, Chen Miao muttered in disbelief.

It was indeed challenging to deal with a resurrection-type evolutionist because they could revive as long as a sufficient number of cells remained. However, complete invincibility and such a bizarre ability to counteract harm were two different things.

How could one person evolve to this extent? There was simply no way to deal with him!

“I’ve never been able to figure you out, Mr. Bai.” Rong Qi leaned back in his chair, looking at Bai Sheng, who was bleeding profusely on the ground and said calmly.

“There are twenty S-classes in the world, each with their own distinct and powerful abilities, but you do not appear to have one. If Evolution were a video game, you would be the player who got to the end without using any special moves or ultimate kills, and all potential conflicts in your previous life were resolved with ease and immense wealth.”

Bai Sheng panted, a faint smile playing on his bloodied lips, “Thank you. Please call it charisma.”

Rong Qi sneered, “Perhaps, but it doesn’t affect your fate today.”

He leaned back in his chair, looked up at Shui Ronghua in the distance, and exclaimed, “—Witch Italdo!”

His words had an irresistible force, and Shui Ronghua immediately felt a sense of impending danger, but it was too late.

The restraints set by Shen Zhuo were effortlessly torn open, and the female doctor couldn’t even struggle. Witch Italdo broke free from the shackles and immediately took control of this body!

“…,” The witch looked down at her own hands, unable to believe that she had been summoned just like this.

“You weren’t originally a creature belonging to this place. Instead, you were brought to Earth by a meteor and suppressed within a human body by Shen Zhuo. Even your powers were severely repressed…”

Rong Qi snapped his fingers, and the witch’s metallic collar slid open and fell to the ground.

“Go kill Bai Sheng.” Rong Qi’s voice was gentle, but it had a commanding tone to it. “Dig out Bai Sheng’s heart, and I will set you free, completely restoring your true, primal power.”

Witch Italdo’s pupil was slightly dilated, and her gaze crossed the space to meet Bai Sheng’s.

After a brief moment, her eyes changed slightly. It appeared to be a combination of excitement and malice. Lifting her foot, she began to walk forward.

“No… don’t.” Chen Miao almost choked on his words. “Don’t act recklessly! Please!”

The witch opened her five fingers with a swish, her fingertips as sharp as knives. “Can you truly set me free?”

Rong Qi smiled, “I can.”

A smile appeared on the witch’s blood-red lips. Her pace quickened, and she became more animated. When she passed by the corridor window, no one noticed the figure of Shui Ronghua reflected in the glass. The female doctor’s spectral image floated in mid-air, her arms extended to embrace the witch against her soft chest. Then she lowered her head to kiss the horrifyingly ugly right side of her face.

“Italdo, you promised me.” The female doctor whispered softly in her ear. “You promised never to betray Shen Zhuo.”

The witch stopped in her tracks, looked at Rong Qi, and said with a charming smile, “Let’s believe you for now.”

As the last word fell, she leaped toward Bai Sheng. In the distance, Chen Miao cried out, “Stop—”

At the same moment.

The sharp tips of the witch’s fingers burst into a burst of healing white light and hurled toward Bai Sheng. As if anticipating it, Bai Sheng caught it directly, thrusting it into his chest. The fountain-like flow of blood abruptly stopped.

At the same time, the witch turned around as quickly as a shooting star and reached out with one hand toward Rong Qi’s face!

In that instant, which was more than just a flash of lightning, Rong Qi sighed silently, raised his hand, and snapped his fingers.

With a thunderous roar, the witch smashed through the wall!

“Don’t move.” Rong Qi lifted a finger, stopping Bai Sheng from abruptly getting up.

“It was Doctor Shui who stopped you from doing anything harmful to Shen Zhuo, right?” As the wall shattered, dust filled the air. Rong Qi shook his head as he looked at the distorted half of the witch’s body. “The understanding between you two is even deeper than I imagined.”

“You @#$^%^&*&*, I’ll @#¥% your &*#¥.” The witch instantly erupted into a string of obscenities that no one could understand, and from the tone, it seemed to originate from her distant hometown. “Where on earth did this character with such a big attitude come from?!”

Rong Qi even chuckled at this. At that moment, the footsteps of a commotion echoed from the distant corridor.

Everyone turned their heads at the same time, only to see Shunsuke Noda coming down the stairs, holding someone in front of him with a knife—it was none other than Shen Zhuo!

The scene was terrifyingly absurd.

One was the esteemed supervisor of Shenhai City, and the other was a globally rare S-class. This combination should have been overwhelming anywhere, but the fact that one was being held hostage and the other was stabbed made it unbelievable.

“… Nice to see you again.” Rong Qi’s tone carried an imperceptible sigh. “Inspector Shen.”

With the knife pressed against him, Shen Zhuo walked forward, passing by Bai Sheng. His gaze was drawn briefly to the dreadful knife wound that pierced through his chest.

The two locked eyes, and for a moment, Bai Sheng thought that given his usual sarcasm, Shen Zhuo might mock him with something like, “Can even an S-class end up in such a sorry state?” or “Now you know why you can’t get a position.” However, Shen Zhuo didn’t say anything of the sort. Instead, he withdrew his gaze and looked at Rong Qi, saying coldly:

“Sorry, have we met before? I don’t remember encountering such a large-scale cripple like you.”

“Apologies; my evolution is just a little short of completion, and I was very eager to meet you.” Surprisingly, Rong Qi wasn’t angry at all. His deep black eyes looked at Shen Zhuo calmly. “But it’s okay. Soon, you’ll see my fully evolved state.”

As he spoke, he casually waved his hand, and Shunsuke Noda understandingly released Shen Zhuo, giving him a push forward.

Shen Zhuo staggered a step, and without hesitation, he drew a gun from his waist and aimed it at Rong Qi. No one in the room expected such a vehement reaction from him, and Chen Miao exclaimed, “Senior, don’t!”

Bai Sheng stood up abruptly. “—Stop. Attacking him will backfire!”

Bang!

As the gunshot rang out, Shunsuke Noda swiftly acted, breaking Shen Zhuo’s wrist with a crack. The bullet grazed Rong Qi’s face and embedded itself in the wall!

Bai Sheng cursed loudly, and in a flash, he slashed toward Shunsuke Noda. The latter drew a katana quickly, but with a clang—

The katana was slashed in half by an enraged Bai Sheng, and the broken blade flew out, crashing through half the wall!

Shen Zhuo staggered downward, holding his broken right wrist, and Rong Qi reached out from the wheelchair to support him.

“Please do not put yourself through this, Inspector Shen. I only want to request a favor and not kill you. I can even guarantee your absolute safety around me… Can we sit down and discuss this?”

Rong Qi’s words could even be described as gentle. Shen Zhuo, on the other hand, looked pale as ice and snow as he raised his eyes to look at him, his face drenched in cold sweat. His eyes carried a clear mockery as he said, “You don’t want to kill me?”

Rong Qi: “Yes, I really just want…”

“No one goes to such lengths to capture a high-ranking supervisor just to kill him. But there are things in this world scarier than death.” Shen Zhuo suddenly smirked, his face filled with a strange and cruel coldness. “Do you know what the first thing the top ten permanent supervisors of the United Nations receive when they take office?”

Rong Qi looked at him with a puzzled squint.

“The supervisor bears both honor and disgrace, holds secrets, and can be killed but not captured. To leave the supervisor with the last bit of dignity, we are instructed to embed a poisonous capsule in our teeth when taking office…”

Rong Qi’s face changed dramatically as he reached to grab Shen Zhuo’s jaw. However, Shen Zhuo abruptly leaned backward, showing undisguised disdain. “I don’t talk to fools.”

Then he seemed to move his back molars, as if breaking something. Black blood immediately spilled from the corner of his mouth, and he collapsed backward.

Chen Miao exclaimed, “Senior!”

In that moment, everyone’s minds went blank. Even Shunsuke Noda froze in place. It was as if no one dared to believe their own eyes. Rong Qi leaned over to check Shen Zhuo’s neck, but there was no pulse.

Dead?

One of the top ten supervisors in the world, the HRG plan’s last hope, the Damocles’ sword hanging over a hundred thousand evolutionists’ heads—died like this?

After a brief silence, as if a spark fell into an oil pan, the entire scene exploded.

Everyone was yelling and roaring. The security team in the distance rushed forward like crazy. Bai Sheng’s face became extremely cold. He stood up and reached out to Shen Zhuo. Shunsuke Noda, still in a fit of rage, tried to rush forward but was kicked away by the furious Bai Sheng, crashing through the wall.

Rong Qi stared at Shen Zhuo amid the commotion, and if one looked closely, one could see his pupils contract to the extreme. Suddenly, he slashed his palm open and leaned forward from the wheelchair, attempting to force the meteor blue glowing blood into Shen Zhuo’s mouth.

At that moment, Shen Zhuo’s eyes snapped open.

With a splattering sound of torn flesh, he thrust his hand swiftly and precisely into Rong Qi’s unguarded chest, directly pulling out his bloody heart!

Blood sprayed out, and the air seemed to freeze for a moment. Everyone stood in shock.

“…,” Rong Qi looked down in amazement at Shen Zhuo. However, he was met with a pair of clear, sharp eyes. Then, with a crack!

Shen Zhuo mercilessly crushed the heart into a bloody pulp with a chilling sound.

“Do you really think I was going to commit suicide? Idiot.” He sneered while gasping for breath.

Plop!

Rong Qi slumped backward in his wheelchair, blood oozing from his chest. Shunsuke Noda rushed forward, “Mr. Rong!”

Bai Sheng moved like lightning, shoving Shunsuke Noda aside and calling out to Shen Zhuo, “Come over here!”

Shen Zhuo, displaying an agility entirely different from his usual self, stood up abruptly. Without a word, he ran toward Bai Sheng, who wiped away the black blood at the corner of his lips, looking unstable. “What… what the hell is going on?!”

“Faked death paralytic!” Shen Zhuo, indifferent to the blood on him, grabbed Bai Sheng’s arm, darting out like an arrow. “Issued by the International Supervision General Administration, specifically used to make supervisors play dead. Stop asking questions and get out of here quickly!”

“…” Bai Sheng’s mood at the moment was simply beyond words. “What happened to supervisors preferring death over humiliation?!”

Shen Zhuo, impatient, wiped the blood off and grabbed Bai Sheng’s arm, darting out at lightning speed. “We’re just here to work a shift. Nielsen doesn’t pay us that much. Why are you so into the role?”

Bai Sheng: “…”
