Chapter 14: It’s academic erotica!

The Central China office sent the samples to the Crisis Management Office’s Beijing headquarters, where they were compared and searched against the Special Human Population Data Management System and DNA sample database.

Surprisingly, there were no matches found in global databases or DNA sample libraries.

Just when everyone thought they had discovered a new type of special human, a detective from the Central China office came up with an idea: the reason why this DNA sample is not in the population sample database is because this type of special human went extinct before the population management system was established.

This DNA sample is likely to be in the extinct species sample library.

The experienced detective’s idea garnered attention, and he soon borrowed archived items from the Hubei Province Special Human Branch: a bundle of hair from the Shennongjia Wild Man.

“The mysterious special human who was the victim is indeed the unique Shennongjia Wild Man of Hubei,” Bai Xiaoyuan said with some excitement. “We haven’t seen the Shennongjia Wild Man for half a century! After this hypothetical idea was confirmed, scholars at the Crisis Management Office were all buzzing, not just about the case but about the Wild Man.”

Subsequently, this detective, representing the Central China office, joined the special task force. With his exceptional investigative abilities, he successfully assisted the task force in solving the cement-hidden body case within a month.

“After that, he was transferred to the Crisis Management Office’s Beijing headquarters,” Bai Xiaoyuan said solemnly. “The last victim in this case was killed more than thirty years ago, but the final criminal will still face justice. I think we can get some clues from him.”

Qin Ge: “Who is he?”

Both Tang Cuo and Bai Xiaoyuan answered, “Lei Chi.”

Even Xie Zijing chimed in, “I know him too.”

Qin Ge: “Is he very famous?”

Xie Zijing: “Extremely famous. He is the most outstanding werewolf in the Crisis Management Office and the chairman of the National Werewolf Rights Protection Association.”

Following Qin Ge’s suggestion, Bai Xiaoyuan was responsible for writing the report based on Xie Zijing’s description, while Tang Cuo was tasked with adding various details to the report.

The report not only had to explain what happened at 267th Hospital thirty years ago but also elevate this matter from the murder committed by Cai Mingyue and a few nurses to the overall management of 267th Hospital.

Understanding administrative affairs well, Bai Xiaoyuan quickly grasped Qin Ge’s intent. “If we can’t pin Cai Mingyue and the others on this matter, at least we can reopen the investigation into the entire incident by questioning the hospital’s management, right?”

Qin Ge nodded. “Remember, do it in the name of Xie Zijing.”

He looked at Xie Zijing. “I’m sorry, but you may incur the enmity of Cai Yi and the Special Management Committee over this matter.”

Xie Zijing held Tang Cuo’s panda in his arms and petted it frantically. “I don’t mind. It’s not me who’s writing it.”

Bai Xiaoyuan: “…Writing reports is tiring; you treat us to takeout.”

“I don’t have money,” Xie Zijing said.

Bai Xiaoyuan immediately exposed his lie, “Don’t lie. You’re one of those who receive special allowances at the Crisis Management Office, earning tens of thousands a month.”

Tang Cuo added, “…Twice as much as mine.”

Xie Zijing replied, “Yeah, it says ‘tens of thousands,’ but the Western Division hasn’t provided rations for almost half a f*cking year.”

Noticing the worried look Qin Ge gave him, Xie Zijing quickly flashed a reassuring smile and took out a few books from his backpack, saying, “But it’s okay, I’ve been self-studying other skills lately, striving for a ‘penny saved is a penny earned’ approach to get rich.”

Qin Ge glanced at his books.

“How to Become the Stock King,” “Winning Secrets for Beginners! Learn to Trade Stocks in Ten Days” and “Success Manual for Lazy People Part 2: Turning the Tables in a Bear Market.”

“Tang Cuo,” Qin Ge sighed wearily, “help him get rid of all of these.”

Xie Zijing: “They’re quite interesting, with many stories of starting from scratch, but because I haven’t read anything by these authors, they end up bankrupt and disgraced.”

Qin Ge said, “Give it up. Real stock kings don’t have time to write books.”

Xie Zijing continued to rub the panda’s ears, almost making the panda reveal its fangs. “Okay, it’s a joke. These are all part of an Amazon 200-100 deal.”

After a pause, he added, “I bought some serious books too, a set of ‘The Sentinel and His Six Guides,’ and ‘How to Elicit S*xual Responses.'”

Tang Cuo asked, “…Aren’t those all erotic books?”

Xie Zijing replied, “Academic research, you wouldn’t understand.”

Tang Cuo retorted, “So it’s academic erotica!”

Xie Zijing immediately grinned, “I didn’t expect it; you’ll be so deeply into erotic books, Tang Cuo.”

Thinking back to Xie Zijing’s earlier remark about “taking an inch,” Tang Cuo suddenly became nervous and frantically grabbed his phone, saying, “Qin Ge, it’s too dangerous for you to live with Xie Zijing. I’ll help Xie Zijing find a new place right now.”

Xie Zijing lunged to grab the phone, but Bai Xiaoyuan grabbed his arm and said, “Boss, it’s time to write the report. You dictate, and I’ll write. Time is running out.”

Xie Zijing: “Wait a moment, Tang Cuo, give me the phone. If you don’t give it to me, I’ll release the lion. Aren’t you afraid?”

“I’m afraid,” Tang Cuo retreated into the kitchen, operating his phone while resolutely replying, “But I have to protect Qin Ge!”

Qin Ge, holding a cup of hot water wrapped in a blanket, sat on the sofa and suddenly burst into laughter upon hearing these words.

He was in a warm and familiar place with people who said they were going to protect him.

Back in school, after patrolling the abnormal “sea area,” he had some unusual reactions. The people in his dormitory were all excited, saying they wanted to protect him. Yan Hong was always the quickest to react, often swiftly setting up a small table in the dormitory. The three of them would draw lots, and the one who lost would be responsible for cooking, fetching water, buying beer, and treating everyone to skewers for the next month. They would play a game of landlord through the night.

The sand cat’s large ears trembled in his hands, occasionally raising its head to glance at Qin Ge. Its long tail swayed gently, looking very soft. Qin Ge opened his palm once again, and his timid little rabbit finally took shape, though not very clearly.

However, as expected, after being stared at by the sand cat for a while, it began to shed tears. Its small paws tightly gripped Qin Ge’s fingers, its head turning between Qin Ge and the sand cat, occasionally looking in Xie Zijing’s direction.

Qin Ge couldn’t help but smile.

He suddenly realized that this was the fastest he had ever recovered.

Several days later, Gao Tianyue returned to the Crisis Management Office after finishing his business trip. He was dusty and tired, planning to bring back some rare Jinjun mei tea to enjoy at home.

Qin Ge was waiting for him outside his office.

Gao Tianyue suddenly felt tired and exhausted. He fumbled with his keys for a long time but couldn’t insert them into the lock.

Qin Ge said, “Director Gao, let me help you.”

Gao Tianyue replied, “Qin Ge, can we discuss this tomorrow? I just got back.”

Qin Ge said, “What we need to discuss tomorrow is something else.”

Gao Tianyue said, “The Adjustment Department will be established in April; there is no need to rush. I won’t delay your paperwork and approvals.”

Qin Ge hurriedly explained, “It’s not about the adjustment department. When I was patrolling Peng Hu’s sea area, I discovered something else related to dozens of lives.”

Gao Tianyue: “…”

Gao Tianyue went pale, staring at Qin Ge intensely. Qin Ge noticed that Gao Tianyue’s eyelids were also trembling when he sensed danger.

After a long sigh, the door to the office finally opened.

At this moment, on the lower floor of the Crisis Management Office, in the corridor, Bai Xiaoyuan blocked Lei Chi’s path.

Lei Chi, who had returned to the Crisis Management Office along with Gao Tianyue, was also dusty, but his spirits were much better.

He furrowed his thick eyebrows, scrutinizing Bai Xiaoyuan from top to bottom. “Who are you?”

Bai Xiaoyuan introduced herself first, then looked around and saw that there was no one in the corridor. He grabbed Lei Chi and tried to drag him into the nearby meeting room.

But she couldn’t budge him.

Lei Chi had a tall and robust physique, and his feet were firmly planted on the floor. Bai Xiaoyuan couldn’t budge him at all.

Lei Chi asked, “What’s going on?”

Bai Xiaoyuan responded, “You can tell it’s something secretive.”

Lei Chi furrowed his brow again and said, “I don’t like listening to secrets.”

Bai Xiaoyuan insisted, “But this secret you must hear. Mr. Lei, please come in. Don’t worry, there are surveillance cameras in the meeting room, and I won’t do anything to you.”

After finally managing to get Lei Chi into the meeting room, Bai Xiaoyuan didn’t want to waste any time. She immediately took out the report; they had stayed up late writing and revising for several days.

Lei Chi wasn’t very interested at first, but as he read through the report and listened to Bai Xiaoyuan add many details on the side, his expression gradually changed.

“That’s how it is.” Bai Xiaoyuan explained, “The Adjustment Department doesn’t have the authority to investigate and execute. Can you give us some advice? Is this report as well-written as it is? Which parts need to be emphasized and supplemented?”

“It’s enough,” Lei Chi said. “Very detailed. Don’t worry about the statute of limitations; it can be submitted for approval by the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office, and there’s still hope. This matter… it’s too shocking, just as heinous as the cement-hidden body case I handled before.”

Bai Xiaoyuan let out a long sigh of relief.

This report is now being handed over to Gao Tianyue by Qin Ge. If Gao Tianyue approves the investigation, it will be passed on to the Criminal Investigation Division of the Crisis Management Office. Lei Chi was from the Criminal Investigation Division, and he said it was enough, so it should be sufficient.

“Thank you very much. Our department head will treat you to dinner sometime,” Bai Xiaoyuan said with a smile. He then pulled two candies from her pocket, placed them in Lei Chi’s hand, and took back the thick report. “The attachments only have titles; I need to prepare the materials for the attachments and submit them to you later.”

Lei Chi looked at the candies in his hand. “I thought you were going to confess to me just now.”

Bai Xiaoyuan was about to open the door but was puzzled. “Why?”

“I’ve encountered similar situations a few times before.” Lei Chi looked at the meeting room and said, “Dragging me into a meeting room, taking the opportunity to ask me out.”

Bai Xiaoyuan: “…”

Lei Chi: “Sorry, I misunderstood you.”

“Even though you’re really handsome, I already have a boyfriend, okay? And I don’t consider inter-species relationships.”

Lei Chi: “…”

Bai Xiaoyuan: “I have a little cat, and it’s very afraid of dogs.”

Lei Chi said, “I’m not a dog… I’m a werewolf.”

Bai Xiaoyuan was about to make another playful remark when they heard a muffled thump from above: someone had forcefully slammed a table hard.

Directly above the meeting room was Gao Tianyue’s office.
