SB Ch104: Battle of Seers

Chapter 104: “It’s impossible that these four people are not seers.”

Lao Yu’s face didn’t look good. He opened his mouth but didn’t make a sound.

An Wujiu stared at him, feeling that this person was becoming increasingly agitated after playing several rounds as an NPC.

Toudou Sakura was obviously faking her role.

“Not going to out yourself?” Toudou Sakura smiled and said, “Then let’s see how long you can hold on. How about this? Give me the mid-priest, and I’ll check the blue-haired sister in the fifth position next night. There’s nothing more to say; I’m done.”

After she finished speaking, she turned to look at Lao Yu with a watchful expression.

In reverse order of speaking, the turn passed to Lao Yu after Toudou Sakura. Lao Yu seemed like he couldn’t hold it any longer and blurted out, “I’m not a wolf, I’m not at all; she’s the fake seer! She’s the real wolf!”

The others had no right to speak, and the silence made his agitation more apparent.

Lao Yu looked at the eyes staring at him, making him uncomfortable.

“I’m a good person. I saw nothing last night, and this Toudou Sakura claimed to be the seer and marked me as a wolf. Isn’t that slandering my identity? I’m not a wolf; the real wolf is Toudou Sakura. I don’t know if you believe me, but if you sacrifice me, you’ll lose a good person. I’m second to speak, and I can’t figure out much, but I find it strange that number three is falsely accusing me. I don’t accept it.”

He spoke forcefully, and An Wujiu thought he didn’t sound like a real wolf.

But then again, if he were a wolf marked as a wolf, what would he do?

Exploding right away would be unwilling, especially since Toudou Sakura didn’t seem like a seer. They’d likely want to find the real seer before exploding.

So Lao Yu’s identity was still uncertain.

“I don’t know what to say for you to believe me. I’m not a seer who can reveal my identity, nor do I have the skill to prove myself. If I were a witch, I would poison number one tonight.” Lao Yu frowned, “That’s it. I think you should be able to see that I’m not a wolf.”

It was An Wujiu’s turn.

An Wujiu smiled at Lao Yu and said, “No need to be so agitated. It’s clear Miss Toudou is trying to fake your identity as number two. I’m not the seer, and I don’t intend to jump in as the seer. I joined the election out of a whim to see the seers’ performances without bearing the responsibility of voting.”

He paused, then continued calmly, “Look at the two ahead. Number three was the first to speak and marked number two as a wolf, but her demeanor and speech don’t seem like those of a seer. In my view, a real seer is the only card among the good guys with real information. They bear responsibility, and since other good guys lack perspective, the seer must want the good guys to recognize their cards. In this situation, the seer’s speech must be sincere and report their inspection journey to convince us they’re not making up information. Clearly, Toudou Sakura lacks both of these points.”

Toudou Sakura just shrugged with a smile after hearing his words.

“Secondly, she named her next check as number five, who is also still in the game.” An Wujiu looked at Toudou Sakura and said, “Let me put it this way, why is there a mid-priest election round?”

“Because the mid-priest has an extra 0.5 vote, which benefits both the good guys and cultists. So those with information, like the seer who inspected someone last night or the wolves who know their teammates, will jump out with true or false information to fight for it. Of course, some will choose not to participate and become a voting card to stand by and take the mid-priest’s scepter.”

“Besides the extra votes, the key is that the seer is doomed to an early death. Once they reveal themselves in the election, the wolves will find and kill them at night. The witch might not have an antidote left to save them, and without the seer’s speech, we won’t know who they inspected the second night. But if the seer holds the scepter and finds a good person, they can indirectly tell us by passing the scepter, reducing the wolf pits in our view, right?”

He was almost teaching the seer how to act because An Wujiu himself held a very passive god card, and it was crucial for the seer to find a wolf, preferably the Gargoyle.

But there were both cunning and inexperienced players in the game, and An Wujiu worried the seer’s speech might be unconvincing, losing the mid-priest position, or not knowing how to use it if they got it.

This would make it tough for the good guys.

An Wujiu turned to Toudou Sakura and said, “So if you’re the seer, only leaving number five as your inspection target, what if number five jumps out and claims you’re a wolf? From your perspective, what card are they? Wouldn’t that waste an inspection? If number five sees you get the mid-priest’s scepter and explodes into the night, who will you inspect then? How will we know?”

“In the daytime, if you die, to whom will you pass your scepter? Who do you want to inherit your mid-priest position? The night before, you marked someone as a wolf. The next night, you intend to check on someone who might self-destruct as a wolf. If you get stabbed the second night and have no last words, what should we do? Should we destroy the scepter and cancel the mid-priest’s authority?”

This string of questions left Toudou Sakura a bit stunned.

“You were the first to speak, so flaws in your speech are understandable, but your attitude clearly shows you’re faking your identity, always pushing number two to self-destruct, yet he hasn’t self-destructed until now. If you’re a good person, I suggest you step back when a real seer with solid statements speaks up later. If you stay here and compete, it will be hard to clear your identity.”

After saying this, An Wujiu glanced at Lao Yu and said, “I won’t comment on number two; I’ll leave it to the others.”

Lao Yu frowned, wanting to ask what he meant, but he couldn’t say anything.

“I can say all this to you because I believe good people should recognize me. This round includes a Gargoyle, a seer from the wolf team. Once the Gargoyle jumps out, the perspective of the good people will be very confused. I’ll focus on listening to the later speeches, and if there are multiple seers, I’ll choose my side after the election. I’m a civilian, not interested in the mid-priest position, just saying a few words.”

After speaking, he took a step back and said, “I withdraw from the election.”

The speaking privilege was transferred from number one to number twelve, Matsubara Mori.

“Twelve speaking,” Matsubara Mori began, “I am the real seer. Last night, I checked number two, who is a good person. You might find it strange that just before, someone marked number two as a wolf, and now I’m saying he’s good. It does seem coincidental, but it also relates to the order of speeches.”

“My process of checking people is straightforward. As a seer, I want to maximize my ability by finding wolves, so we can sacrifice them without losing a good person. Last night, after we each received our identity cards from the altar, we returned to our rooms. I overheard Lao Yu saying, ‘If anyone should be stabbed, it should be An Wujiu.’ Miss Toudou was also present, so I understand why she tried to fake his identity.”

“With the same intention, I checked number two at night. To my surprise, he turned out to be a good person. So I can only interpret his words last night as angry talk or that he thought the wolves would target An Wujiu because of his skill.”

Matsubara Mori spoke calmly, sharing information from the previous night, making his investigation reasonable.

“I’ll check number nine tonight.” He looked at Noah and said, “Because I’m worried I can’t judge your speech from an adult’s perspective. You didn’t join the election, so I want to check on someone among the voters. You can choose to vote for me or not, but I won’t change this check.”

“As for tomorrow night, I’ll check player number one, who just spoke.” Matsubara looked at An Wujiu and gave a seemingly apologetic smile, “Sorry, but your skills are far superior to mine. I can’t discern if you’re good or bad just from your speech. Although you seemed to be helping the good guys, I’m still suspicious.”

“I aim to confirm you as a good person, hoping you are one. With you, I think the other good people won’t choose the wrong side. I didn’t check number three because her speech leaned good. She faked her identity but didn’t strongly vie for the scepter, and she heard Lao Yu’s words last night, so she had a motive to fake him out.”

An Wujiu nodded slightly.

He had no objections. So far, apart from giving number two, who was just faked out, a good identity, Matsubara Mori hadn’t made any mistakes. His speech was suitable for a seer.

At this point, Toudou Sakura stepped back, choosing to withdraw from the election.

Seeing this, Matsubara Mori said, “Now that number three has withdrawn, I can tentatively acknowledge you. I hope you will speak well after the election.”

Then he emphasized again, “I am the real seer. I ask players six, eight, and nine to see the situation clearly and vote for me. As the seer, I hope to help the good people get more information, so we can win. That’s all, I’m done.”

“Eleven speaking.”

It was Yang Ce’s turn. He appeared calm and relaxed, “I joined the election to evaluate the seer. I won’t talk about number three (Toudou Sakura), who faked her identity to find wolves. Now that you’ve withdrawn, I won’t evaluate your alignment. I’m not the seer, and currently, I only recognize number twelve as the seer. His speech was standard, without major issues, and explained why he checked number two. Though coincidental, it’s acceptable.”

“I think numbers three (Toudou Sakura) and twelve (Matsubara) didn’t meet at night. Otherwise, the wolf team wouldn’t be stupid enough to have two wolves give different check results on the same player, making it impossible to elevate a teammate’s status. So I can tentatively see them as not on the same side.”

“However,” Yang Ce said, looking at the remaining players, “there are still four more to speak. They can’t all be non-seers, right? I want to hear their speeches before making a judgment.”

Then he pondered, “Is it possible that number two (Lao Yu) is a wolf, number twelve (Matsubara) is also a wolf, and number three actually faked the right identity but got deceived? If that’s the case, number twelve jumped to save the already-marked wolf teammate, using good speech to deceive the faking civilian. Is that possible?”

Yang Ce frowned, “If that’s the case, would player number one (An Wujiu) be guiding the wolf teammates to jump later?”

After thinking, he shook his head and said, “I don’t think so. Though I haven’t played with An Wujiu, everyone seems wary of you. If you’re really skilled, seeing a teammate marked, you’d jump yourself.”

An Wujiu exchanged a glance with him, just curling his lips.

“Let’s hear the remaining speeches. I’m a good person and have tried to reason out both sides. If there’s another seer, I’ll listen closely and discuss after the election. I’m done.”

The speaking privilege passed to number ten, Andrew. As in the warm-up match, Andrew remained composed, seemingly unaffected by betrayal.

He frowned slightly, looking very serious.

“Seer here; I checked number five, Megan, last night, and she’s a wolf.”

Author’s note:

I made a mistake with a number in the last chapter. Number nine wasn’t in the election; it was number five. I’ve corrected it.

Regarding Werewolf, just enjoy the show. The final review is more interesting. If it’s poorly written, feel free to discuss it. Everyone is welcome to join!

In the next chapter, I’ll switch to Lao Yu’s perspective (probably). If I switch to Shen Ti’s perspective, it might become more entertaining (just kidding).
