Chapter 131: I want it now
When he came out of the bathroom, Yu Nian’s legs were soft. Xie You couldn’t bear to let him walk, so he carried him into the piano room, sat him down on the piano stool, and even carefully placed a cushion on the stool.
Yu Nian held onto Xie You’s clothes and didn’t let go, avoiding eye contact with a bit of embarrassment, “Why did you just…”
Xie You bent over and whispered into Yu Nian’s ear, “…Because I wanted to say in Nian Nian for a while longer.”
The warm breath he exhaled tickled Yu Nian’s ear, and the itchiness quickly spread through sensitive nerves. His excitement and warmth, which hadn’t subsided, showed signs of resurgence after being teased by Xie You’s words. Yu Nian grabbed Xie You’s hand and hurriedly said, “Let’s record, record the accompaniment!”
Yu Nian valued the composition of “Serenade” greatly. He wasn’t in a rush and kept revising it repeatedly, even making major adjustments twice. Therefore, the mixing and arrangements for the other songs on the album had been completed, and only now did they start recording the piano accompaniment for this piece.
Taking out the music sheet, Yu Nian pointed to a small section, “I suddenly thought, should we make a modification here?”
He was asking for Xie You’s opinion.
Xie You glanced at it, his slender fingers resting on the black and white piano keys, and he smoothly played out the melody. When the melody stopped, Xie You pondered, “It needs to be changed. The fourth and fifth notes feel abrupt, not smooth.”
“Indeed! No wonder, I hummed it several times and couldn’t figure out what was wrong.” Yu Nian extended his hand, took the pencil nearby, and made some marks on the paper. After a while, he looked up, “And now?”
Following the modified melody, Xie You played it again, “Still needs to be changed.”
Yu Nian wasn’t annoyed, or perhaps he had gradually become accustomed to studying the music sheet with Xie You and making revisions together. He flexibly turned the pencil in his hand and stared at the paper for a moment. Suddenly, his eyes brightened, “How about this!”
He crossed out all the previous notes with the tip of the pencil and rewrote the small section entirely. Then he handed it to Xie You, “Try playing this?”
Following Yu Nian’s suggestion, Xie You pressed the piano keys and played it once. He played it again, then finally said, “Very smooth.”
Yu Nian, without any hesitation, leaned his head on Xie You’s shoulder. He understood how high Xie You’s standards were when it came to music, and he was well aware that someone who had been playing the piano for nearly twenty years and possessed perfect pitch from birth had an acute sensitivity and strictness when it came to melodies. Since Xie You said it was very smooth, there was no need for further changes; they could use this version directly.
In a good mood, Yu Nian lifted his head and leaned closer to give Xie You’s profile a loud kiss.
Xie You felt a bit embarrassed by the kiss, softly saying, “Nian Nian, we need to restrain ourselves…” Before he could finish his sentence, he looked into Yu Nian’s eyes, which were brimming with a gentle smile. Xie You instantly changed his words, “…Okay, you can kiss a couple more times.”
Yu Nian burst into laughter, leaned in again, and planted two more kisses on the side of Xie You’s face.
When it was time for the official recording, Yu Nian sat on the sofa by the window, watching Xie You set up the equipment intently. He then moved to the piano, positioned his fingers on the keys, and started playing.
Xie You’s posture was impeccable, his back straight. His profile was illuminated by light and shadow, outlining his handsome and understated facial features. Xie You’s usual demeanor was always cold and distant, with slightly thin lips that gave off a sharp edge, and his gaze carried a coldness that made one’s heart tighten.
But the instant the music began, Xie You’s eyes seemed to light up like stars. His fingertips danced gracefully and powerfully, like a magician, crafting a dazzling and brilliant world with musical notes.
He was the king of this world.
As the piano music stopped, Xie You remained motionless for two seconds, as if he was annoyed with himself. He turned his head towards Yu Nian and said, “Nian Nian, I need to play it again.” There was a touch of pure disappointment and unhappiness in his tone.
Yu Nian didn’t hear anything wrong, but he knew that Xie You’s standards for himself were undoubtedly very high. So, he smiled with raised eyebrows and said, “Sure, go ahead.” He added after a moment, “It sounds especially good.”
Receiving Yu Nian’s praise, Xie You’s demeanor brightened slightly. He took a light breath, stared at the music sheet for a while, and then began playing again.
It wasn’t until the third time through that Xie You was satisfied. He closed the piano lid, turned off the equipment, walked up to Yu Nian, and stood in front of him. Bending down, he asked in a low voice, “Did I play well?” There was a slight trace of nervousness in his tone.
Yu Nian didn’t hesitate to offer his praise, “Very well!”
Xie You’s eyes gained a touch of brilliance. He placed his left hand on the sofa, his voice carrying a hoarse quality, “So… will Nian Nian reward me?”
Yu Nian, wearing a loose white V-neck sweater, leaned back comfortably on the sofa with a lifted corner of his lips. “What kind of reward do you want? I can consider it.”
With a firm grip, Xie You lifted Yu Nian’s buttocks and held him close. Leaning in to Yu Nian’s ear, Xie You lightly bit his soft earlobe before swirling his tongue over it. He then whispered, “How about twice tonight?”
Unexpectedly, the reward Xie You wanted was this. Yu Nian chuckled before answering, wrapping his arms around Xie You’s neck, “Sure, whatever you want.”
After listening to the recorded accompaniment and confirming that there were no issues, with the soreness still lingering in his lower back and legs, Yu Nian sat back on the sofa and dialed Meng Yuan’s number on his phone.
Not wanting to be left out, Xie You held Yu Nian in his arms, nestling on the sofa together.
When Meng Yuan answered the call, Yu Nian got straight to the point, “Brother Meng, the piano accompaniment is done on my end. Can you please arrange the recording studio for the next couple of days?”
Before he could finish his sentence, Yu Nian realized that Xie You’s lips were pressed against his neck, planting slow kisses inch by inch. The sensation tickled him a bit, and he gave Xie You a playful glare, but there was a smile in his eyes; he didn’t really have any deterrent effect.
“So efficient?” Meng Yuan agreed, “No problem, I’ll set it up right away. Are you still using the one you’re used to?”
“Yeah, that one is fine. If everything goes smoothly, we should be able to finish recording in a day,” Yu Nian replied. His voice paused as he felt Xie You gently pulling down the loose neckline of his clothes, exposing his collarbone and shoulder line. The touch of their lips made his breath tremble involuntarily.
But knowing that Xie You was trying to capture his attention and not wanting to stop Xie You’s actions, Yu Nian steadied his voice and continued, “To be on the safe side, let’s book two days.”
“Sure. By the way, for Funa Poetry Mineral Water, they want to shoot a Chinese New Year-themed promotional image. I’ve sent you the schedule on your phone. We’re planning to shoot both the New Year’s and Spring Festival promotions on Sunday. That way, you won’t have to endure it twice. The weather is really cold, so make sure to take a hot shower and dress warmly to avoid catching a cold.”
Yu Nian responded briefly, “Got it, thanks, Brother Meng.”
The next moment after the call ended, Xie You snatched the phone away and tossed it aside. Yu Nian’s clothes were half-opened, and faint pink marks of kisses adorned his fair shoulders, chest, and collarbone. Sensing the heat emanating from Xie You’s body, Yu Nian was about to speak when his voice was silenced by Xie You’s lips and tongue.
After a deep kiss, Yu Nian’s lips were slightly wet as he clung to Xie You’s embrace, his breath unsteady. “Didn’t you say at night—”
Xie You’s eyes were deep, and his fingers traced over the delicate line of Yu Nian’s collarbone. In a husky voice, he said, “I want it now.”
With a relaxed schedule, Yu Nian spent the entire day inside the recording studio until the evening, when he finally completed recording “Serenade.”
Taking a sip from his water glass, Yu Nian saw that Meng Yuan was quiet and hadn’t spoken. Curious, he asked, “Bother Meng, what’s wrong?”
Meng Yuan snapped out of his thoughts, “I was listening to President Xie play the piece.”
Hearing this, Yu Nian smiled brightly, “Did you find it beautiful?”
“Classical music and piano compositions are beyond my expertise. But, how should I put it? When President Xie plays, it just sounds different. It’s captivating. I’m even a bit mesmerized,” Meng Yuan laughed and then sighed, “It’s a pity, though. If President Xie was still playing the piano now, he’d probably be extremely famous. He might have had multiple world tours by now.”
Setting down his water glass, Yu Nian’s gaze softened as he remembered what Xie You had said. “Yeah, he’ll always love music, especially the piano, and he’ll shoulder his responsibilities. I really like him this way.”
Meng Yuan covered his cheek with his hand, “Ouch, I need to find time to see a dentist again. My cheeks are sore!”
Yu Nian laughed at Meng Yuan’s exaggerated actions and expressions before changing the topic, “We’ll finish recording the harmonies in half a day tomorrow. That’ll save us half a day’s expenses.”
“That’s good, that’s good. It’s good to be frugal!” Meng Yuan carefully observed Yu Nian and confirmed that his mood had improved a bit over the past few days. He tentatively continued, “Several reporters want to schedule interviews.”
Yu Nian’s smile faded slightly, “About my father?”
“Most likely. The outside world is extremely curious right now. There are all sorts of speculations, and everyone wants to get firsthand information. I won’t make decisions on your behalf. Nian Nian, it’s up to you.”
After a two-second pause, Yu Nian spoke, “I’m not prepared yet. Let’s talk about it later.”
Meng Yuan quickly reassured him, “Of course, I’ll handle it properly. We won’t touch this topic for the time being.”
Nodding, Yu Nian spoke earnestly, “Thank you, Brother Meng.”
After completing the photoshoot for Funa Poetry Mineral Water’s poster and expressing his gratitude to the crew, Yu Nian began walking towards the parking area. Just as he reached the parking lot, someone suddenly darted out from a corner, holding a microphone that nearly hit Yu Nian’s face. Speaking at an extremely rapid pace, the person bombarded him with questions:
“After the shipping king He Xiao passed away, did you inherit a large inheritance? Were you sad about his death? What’s the story between him and your mother? Do you have a good relationship with your father?”
With not many people around in the parking lot, Yu Nian had been chatting with Shi Rou. Hearing the string of questions from the journalist, his lips retained a smile, but his eyes had already turned cold.
The journalist was determined to confront Yu Nian and showed no signs of backing down. The microphone was thrust forward, and the voice reverberated in the empty parking lot, sounding particularly harsh, “You refuse to be interviewed. Could it be that there are hidden secrets and insider information that you can’t speak about? Or perhaps you simply—”
At that moment, a few bodyguards hurried over. They pushed away the microphone, forcibly closed the camera, and blocked the journalist and the camera to the side. Meanwhile, Xie You had already enveloped Yu Nian in his embrace.
Gently planting a kiss on Yu Nian’s forehead to soothe him, Xie You turned his head. His gaze was like an icy dagger as he looked through the bodyguards, indifferently locking onto the journalist who was confronting them. He uttered a single syllable, “Leave.”
The journalist’s face turned deathly pale, and fear involuntarily flickered in their eyes. They took a step back instinctively and turned around to leave.
Xie You signaled the bodyguards with a nod, and the two guards followed suit, keeping a close watch.
The surroundings regained their tranquility. Xie You gently patted Yu Nian’s back, soothingly murmuring, “It’s okay, Nian Nian, it’s okay…”
Yu Nian calmed his emotions, suppressing the various images that surged through his mind. His voice sounded a bit strained as he asked Xie You, “How did you come here?”
“To pick you up and bring you home.”
An ordinary and commonplace statement, yet at this moment, it transformed into a solid shield, covering the most fragile corner of his heart. Yu Nian leaned his head against Xie You’s shoulder, whispering softly, “Okay.”
