Chapter 1

“From now on, you only have two choices: Obey me like a dog, or be wiped out like an ant.”

Boom—

The sound of an explosion reverberated through the TV news, followed by the panicked cries of the fleeing pedestrians at the scene. The piercing sirens grew louder as thick black smoke filled the sky.

“According to our reporter on the scene, a bank robbery occurred at the Shenhai City Bank at 10:30 this morning, resulting in an explosion and multiple injuries. Currently, one of the four robbers has been captured, while the remaining three are still on run…”

The television screen froze, and the news anchor’s report abruptly halted.

A disconcerting silence fell over the interrogation room, followed by a loud thud as a thick file was slammed onto the table.

“Zhang Zhao, male, thirty-two years old, a B-class evolutionist, registered two years ago.”

The interrogator read out the basic information from the first page of the file, then looked up at the man handcuffed to the electric chair across from him, “Five days ago, you and your accomplices robbed a bank, causing an explosion that injured seventeen pedestrians. Fortunately, no one died.”

The walls were lined with blast-proof steel panels, and surveillance cameras were scattered throughout the room. A seemingly inconspicuous metal plaque adorned the solid steel door, which read: Shenhai City Radiation Evolution Supervision Office, Third Interrogation Room.

On a massive iron chair capable of delivering a million volts of electricity, Zhang Zhao sat with his hands cuffed. He raised an eyebrow provocatively at the interrogator and spoke with undisguised contempt:

“Is this how an ordinary person like you speaks to an evolutionist, Mr. Interrogator?”

The interrogator took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing his emotions.

“Answer my question, Zhang Zhao. You worked as a partner in a consulting firm and had a high income. Why did you risk being apprehended by our supervision office to rob a bank?”

Zhang Zhao seemed to have heard an amusing joke. “Why? Well, simply because I was bored.”

The interrogator thought he misheard. “Bored?”

“Isn’t it amusing to see ordinary people screaming in fear, crawling around like ants?”

Zhang Zhao shifted into a more comfortable position and looked directly at the interrogator’s pale face, smiling: “It is said that the purpose of establishing the supervision office is supposedly to manage evolutionists like us. But in reality, most of the people in the Shenhai City Supervision office are incompetent ordinary individuals, with only a few low-class D and C evolutionists—how can you handle precious beings like me, a B-class evolutionist?”

“…”

“Are you going to execute me?” Zhang Zhao’s smirk grew wider, his tone filled with exaggerated mockery.

Silence enveloped the interrogation room.

After a long pause, the interrogator closed the file with a snap and said coldly, “What do you want, Zhang Zhao?”

A victorious expression appeared on Zhang Zhao’s face as he leaned back in the chair.

“Don’t you want to know the whereabouts of my three accomplices?” he lazily remarked. “Let’s make a deal.”

Numerous alert gazes, both from within and outside the surveillance room, focused on the arrogant criminal.

“On the day of the bank explosion, I saw a young man in black sitting in a car, talking on the phone. When I was apprehended, he didn’t even spare a glance outside the car window—I know he’s your leader, the Chief Supervisor who governs all Evolutionists in Shenhai City.” Zhang Zhao looked up at the surveillance camera above, saying, “My condition is simple: have him come and see me in person.”

The air seemed to freeze for a moment.

The interrogator’s face slightly changed. “Why?”

A deeper smirk formed on Zhang Zhao’s face. “Because I want to see him beg…”

“I want to see the expression of desperation on his cold, indifferent face.”

Meanwhile, downstairs.

A silent black sedan parked in front of the steps as four heavily armed Evolutionists stood at attention. They approached and opened the car door, saying, “Chief Supervisor, you’ve returned.”

A slender figure wrapped in a black suit stepped out of the car.

He appeared quite young, with a pale and immaculate complexion. The sunlight reflected off the gray glass windows of the supervision office building, casting a gleam of light and outlining his sharp, resolute jawline.

“Supervisor Shen.” “Supervisor!”

……

From the lobby on the first floor to the elevator entrance, all the staff along the way seemed to have been paused, quickly standing still, greeting, and sidestepping, cautiously bowing their heads as they watched the young man’s polished shoes pass by their feet, followed by the sound of the elevator’s “ding.”

Shen Zhuo, the highest authority figure in the Shenhai City Supervision Office, came to a halt, his gloved hands crossed in front of him, his expression devoid of any emotion, disappearing behind the closed elevator doors.

“This is madness, right?” In front of the surveillance screen outside the interrogation room, everyone stared at Zhang Zhao on the electric chair, and the atmosphere became tumultuous. “What did he just say?” “What does he intend to do?” “If he wants to die, he shouldn’t drag us into it!”

…….

“No, the intelligence reports indicate that those four escaped evolutionists might resort to extreme measures, posing a significant social threat. We must quickly extract the whereabouts of their accomplices from Zhang Zhao.” A staff member furrowed his brow, stood up, and said, “I’ll go consult with the higher-ups. If the situation is urgent, it’s highly likely that Supervisor Shen will need to intervene…”

As soon as he opened the office door, his words came to an abrupt halt.

Four evolutionists stood outside the door, all dressed in white uniforms and armed.

Every evolutionist in the supervision office wore a metal collar around their neck, engraved with different numbers. The two among these four individuals were “B’s,” and the other two were “C’s”—representing their respective levels of evolved abilities.

And surrounded by these four guards stood the familiar figure, tall and slender, dressed in a black suit and white shirt, always wearing gloves, and having a pair of eyes as deep as a frigid pond.

Shen Zhuo.

Everyone in the office instinctively stood up, and the staff member near the door unconsciously took a step back. “Sup… Supervisor!”

Shen Zhuo’s gaze passed through the crowd and landed directly on the surveillance screen.

“—Unless your boss with the surname Shen personally comes to beg, I won’t say another word.” Zhang Zhao lounged comfortably in the electric chair, smiling as he addressed the grim-faced interrogator. “Now, you can leave. You’re not qualified to speak to me.”

A deathly silence filled the room in front of the surveillance screen, with everyone holding their breath.

In that suffocating atmosphere, Shen Zhuo turned around and glanced at the interrogation room on the other side of the corridor. Calmly, he uttered two words: “Open it.”

No one dared to look up at his expression. A guard quickly stepped forward and swiped his access card with a “beep.”

The massive blast-proof steel door weighing half a ton thundered open, and Zhang Zhao looked up from the chair, only to see the interrogator stand up in response: “Supervisor! You—”

Shen Zhuo walked into the interrogation room. He put one hand in his trouser pocket and pressed the other hand on the iron table in front of Zhang Zhao. Tapping the table with his two slender fingers, he said without a word of nonsense:

“Where are your three accomplices?”

Zhang Zhao had to raise his head to meet the gaze of the Chief Supervisor of Shenhai City, looking down upon him.

At first glance, Shen Zhuo’s face was terrifying, as it was astonishingly perfect—his features were cold and pale, his eyebrows and eyes dark as obsidian, his facial structure sharp and precise, with almost no soft lines.

This near-perfect bone structure had a visually striking effect, especially when coupled with his superior power and position, it exuded an intimidating aura, sending shivers down people’s spines.

“…,” Zhang Zhao slowly began to smile, drawing out his words with evident interest. “Shen… Zhuo.”

No one responded to him.

“I’ve heard people say that Supervisor Shen is famous for two things: first, as one of the top ten supervisors in the world, he rules over twenty thousand evolutionists in Shenhai City with an iron fist, while being an ordinary person himself, incapable of evolution.”

“Second,” Zhang Zhao paused, dripping with malice, and said, “he has a very attractive face.”

“…”

The interrogation room fell silent, and Zhang Zhao raised his upper body from the electric chair, staring directly into Shen Zhuo’s eyes. “Beautiful, let’s make a deal. If you give me some satisfaction, I’ll tell you the whereabouts of those three evolutionists. How about it?”

Shen Zhuo stared back at him, remaining silent.

The wall clock emitted a faint ticking sound, and Zhang Zhao, with his handcuffed hands, pointed upward and smiled, “Your time is running out. Three dangerous evolutionists are on the loose. Can you guess what they might do?”

If earlier everyone was too afraid to breathe, now it was as if an invisible hand had squeezed the air out of their lungs.

As if a century had passed, yet also in an instant, Shen Zhuo finally spoke, saying:

“Remove his handcuffs.”

The interrogator’s knees trembled beneath his uniform pants as he walked forward, trying to maintain composure. He used a key to unlock the handcuffs on both sides of the electric chair.

All eyes were fixed on the scene, but no one dared to speak. Zhang Zhao, satisfied, sat up straight, flexing his left and right hands. “Now we’re talking.” Then he reached out towards the immaculate white collar of Shen Zhuo’s shirt, smiling. “Inspector Shen, you… “

Snap!

Zhang Zhao felt his hand being clamped by an iron grip, but in reality, it was just Shen Zhuo’s slender five fingers adorned with black gloves.

In the next second, an unimaginable force came crashing down upon him. He couldn’t even believe his own eyes as Shen Zhuo lifted him up from the electric chair, smashing him against the wall with a resounding boom and instantly cracking the outer shell of the wall!

Completely powerless to fight back, Zhang Zhao, a young and strong evolutionist, was mercilessly lifted by Shen Zhuo’s hand on the back of his collar and brutally slammed against the wall—a force that seemed intent on shattering his skull, each hit faster and more powerful than the last, with shattered bricks littering the ground.

Boom!

The wall of the interrogation room collapsed, revealing the riot-proof steel panel beneath.

With a face covered in blood, Zhang Zhao was forced to slam his head against the steel panel, splattering blood across the wall.

“You f*c…” Zhang Zhao could hardly believe how an ordinary human possessed such overwhelming strength. In his dying moments, he went mad, conjuring a fireball in the palm of his hand.

Evolutionists of Class B or higher possessed the ability to manipulate water and fire. The interrogator exclaimed, “Supervisor, watch out!”

In that instant, Shen Zhuo delivered a powerful kick, sending Zhang Zhao crashing to the ground. From an unknown location, he produced a specially made collar and swiftly locked it around Zhang Zhao’s neck. With a snap, the metal automatically sealed, displaying the numerical code—B002465.

Immediately after, Shen Zhuo retrieved a controller from his suit pocket and pressed a button.

“Aaahhhhh—!”

A piercing scream echoed through the interrogation room as Zhang Zhao’s entire body crackled and sizzled with two hundred thousand volts of high-voltage electricity. It lasted for more than ten seconds before he finally collapsed to the ground, convulsing violently and emitting the smell of burning flesh.

The four Evolutionist guards wearing identical collars stood outside the door, casting indifferent gazes.

Shen Zhuo rolled up his trouser leg, half squatting down, and waved the small silver controller in front of Zhang Zhao’s lifeless eyes.

“Exclusive used for evolutionists, it can instantly release a million volts of high-voltage electricity. A single strike is fatal for anyone below Class A.”

Zhang Zhao gasped for breath; his once arrogant expression completely vanished, his pupils reflecting instinctual fear.

“You robbed a bank and committed arson, posing a serious threat to society. You will spend the rest of your life in the Shenhai City Supervision Office. From now on, you have only two options: obey me like a dog or be wiped out like an ant.”

“Now,” Shen Zhuo lifted Zhang Zhao’s blood-soaked hair, forcing him to look up and meet his gaze one last time, calmly asking, “Where are your three accomplices?”
