Chapter 48

Submission period

Bai Sheng, a true carnivore, was forced to eat vegetarian food all night last night. His inner feeling of having to eat vegetarian all night again tonight could be imagined.

His only hope was to knock himself out with a stick before going to bed and waking up in the morning.

Though not as adept as Yang Xiaodao, who could whip up eight dishes and a soup in two hours, Bai Sheng, being a man naturally inclined toward competition, was completely capable of preparing a few dishes. Anyway, he had all the ingredients at home. He decided to make a squirrel-shaped mandarin fish, take a picture, and share it on his WeChat Moments to show off his virtuous character and Supervisor Shen’s good taste. So he picked up a knife and stood in the kitchen, carefully boning the whole fish.

He was a 1.9-meter-tall S-class man with a strong upper body, wearing only sports pants around his waist. His hair was standing on end, almost touching the cabinet.

Normally, if a person’s back muscles were too thick from working out, they would appear hunched and heavy, but Bai Sheng didn’t have this problem at all. He had been boxing since he was a child, cultivating smooth and vigorous muscles. Looking into the kitchen from outside, the light reflected off his upright back. Although he stood carelessly, there was a familiar and stable sense of security.

Shen Zhuo sat in a dining chair, his mind a bit confused, sometimes clear, sometimes blurry.

Shouldn’t I be at the supervision office? This thought involuntarily came to his mind, but he immediately denied it.

No, there is no one named Bai Sheng in the supervision office. I can’t stay alone without Bai Sheng’s company in my current situation.

But then again, what the hell is wrong with me? Am I sick?

I feel like this house is very attractive. Why did I come to this place?

Shen Zhuo unconsciously stood up, as if by some supernatural force, and slowly walked forward. Bai Sheng was about to turn around to get some cooking wine and almost bumped into him: “Hey! What are you doing, coming over so willingly?”

Shen Zhuo stared at him directly; his eyes seemed a bit confused.

Bai Sheng smiled and reached out to pick him up, placing him on the kitchen counter about half his height, pinching his chin, and asking, “Hungry?”

One was standing, and the other was sitting. Shen Zhuo appeared a bit taller, his long eyelashes drooping as he gazed at Bai Sheng, his eyes seemingly watery.

“…”

Bai Sheng’s breathing became rapid, and he whispered, “Give me another kiss.” Then he leaned in and kissed those slightly parted lips.”

Shen Zhuo felt a bit dazed, not knowing how to resist; his lips, tongue, and teeth were invaded even more thoroughly. The face-to-face position made the kiss even more fervent; his thighs were forced apart and pressed against Bai Sheng’s waist on both sides. He even had to raise his hand to hook Bai Sheng’s nape. The faint sound of water seemed to drown out all senses, and his whole being pressed backward.

Thud!

With a muffled sound, Shen Zhuo’s occiput bumped against the edge of the cabinet. He immediately held his head in pain and bent over.

“What’s wrong? Does it hurt? Where did you hit?” Bai Sheng supported him, ignoring resistance as he parted Shen Zhuo’s dark hair, carefully touching and checking: “Are you okay? Do you feel dizzy?”

Actually, it was nothing serious, just a slight bump. There was neither a bump nor bleeding. Shen Zhuo frowned unhappily and glanced at the cabinet.

“Bad cabinet; I’ll dismantle it later.” Bai Sheng pinched his face, holding back a laugh. Only then did he slightly relax, then adjusted his sweatpants uncomfortably and made up his mind: “You can’t mess around like this anymore. If it happens again, it won’t be the cabinet that’s broken, but me. Go, take a shower first, and come out to eat after.”

Shen Zhuo’s brows furrowed even tighter, with an air of ‘I didn’t mess around; how could you blame me?’

“I was wrong, ancestor; can’t I admit I was wrong?” Bai Sheng breathed heavily, urging, “Go take a shower quickly; remember to lock the bathroom door. Go.”

Shen Zhuo then lightly stepped down, barefoot on the soft carpet, and went to the master bedroom bathroom, holding the back of his head.

Now it was quickly started and forcibly shut down. At night, it would be forced to stand for a long time. Bai Sheng couldn’t decide which torture was more painful. With his elbows on the counter, he buried his face deeply in his chest, forcing himself to take ten deep breaths, exhaling nothing but hot, trembling air.

Luckily, it was only 48 hours. If this went on for several more nights, even an S-class would be ruined.

He took a deep breath and stood up, feeling a little relief. His phone beside the counter buzzed twice. There were two WeChat voice messages on his phone, both from Chairman Bai.

“?”

Bai Sheng opened WeChat, and his uncle’s voice, trembling with suppressed heartache, came from the phone:

“Cheng Cheng, I’ve carefully considered it all day, the dowry of 360 million; let it be 360 million!”

Second voice message:

“No name, no status, really won’t work; it’s unacceptable. We won’t tolerate this injustice. I’ll give you a villa as a dowry for your wedding house. Tomorrow, I’ll go talk to Supervision Shen to see if we can have the wedding at the supervision office. We must have a grand ceremony!”

“Pfft—” Bai Sheng almost choked on his own saliva, feeling incredulous, “What on earth?!”

***

The warm water splashed down, but Shen Zhuo forgot to undress, standing straight in the bathroom, his eyes staring into space.

The back of his head, where he was bumped, throbbed faintly, creating a subtle stimulation. His scattered thoughts quickly focused, forming and merging under that stimulation, with countless overlapping voices ringing in his ears:

“When the ‘daydream’ is shattered, the caster will suffer severe backlash…” “You’re not alone anymore, Shen Zhuo; you have me now.” “Can I have the privilege of taking you out of this dream?” “Wake up, wake up! It worked!” “Do you know the side effects of the XGYE216 neuronal stimulant?” “There’s a 95% chance of causing disruption in the secretion of hypothalamic neuropeptides within 72 hours…”

Neuronal stimulant.

Side effects.

Shen Zhuo pressed his temple with one hand, slowly kneeling down in dizziness.

—Thud!

“That’s how it is; your eldest nephew is still innocent and can’t get married yet, no matter how much dowry you throw in.” Bai Sheng stood in the kitchen, trying not to laugh as he explained the situation to his uncle over a voice message, saying, “Okay, I’m busy making squirrel-shaped mandarin fish to serve the little ancestor. Thanks, uncle, for helping me change the bed; I’ll come over to your place for a meal later. Bye!”

He put down his phone, heating the oil in the pan while using a knife to make final adjustments to the exquisitely carved mandarin fish. Suddenly, he heard a dull thud coming from the bathroom.

“Shen Zhuo?” Bai Sheng turned back sensitively and called out.

No response.

Bai Sheng’s face changed. He rushed out of the kitchen and arrived at the door of the master bedroom bathroom. He twisted the doorknob; indeed, it was locked: “Shen Zhuo! Did you fall? Open the door!”

He knocked twice, but without any response, he couldn’t care much anymore. With a swift kick, he broke open the door.

Warm steam rushed out. In the semi-transparent bathroom, Shen Zhuo was half kneeling on the ground, one hand pressing his temple, his brow twisted in pain.

“What happened? Where did you fall? Don’t move, let me see!”

Bai Sheng stepped forward to help him up, but before he could examine him closely, Shen Zhuo raised his hand decisively, a very firm and unquestionable gesture.

Immediately afterward, the Chief Supervisor of Shenhai glanced at Bai Sheng, his gaze indescribable, as he spoke in a calm tone but with a complex meaning:

“What did we just do?”

Uh-oh, woke up.

Amidst the rushing water, Bai Sheng fell into an indescribable silence.

Shen Zhuo’s shirt was half-open, and his body was soaked through. His lips were slightly swollen and red from the rough kisses. Bai Sheng was shirtless, with four conspicuous scratch marks on his abdomen, and his sweatpants clung to him due to being soaked, revealing a very obvious and awkward shape.

Their eyes met, and the atmosphere was frozen.

“…”

Bai Sheng chose to first set down the sharp knife in his hand, then turned to Shen Zhuo, expressing unequivocally:

“You were willing.”

***

“That’s how it is.” An hour later, at the dining table, Bai Sheng concluded his statement like this.

Shen Zhuo had already showered and changed into clean, white home clothes, sitting across from Bai Sheng at the dining table, holding chopsticks in one hand and his chin in the other, raising an eyebrow: “So, last night with you…”

“Slept.”

“Slept means…”

“What’s done is done. Everything that should have happened has happened.”

“And what happened means…”

“I’ll take responsibility for you. I’ll transfer the dowry to your bank account tomorrow.”

Shen Zhuo narrowed his eyes thoughtfully, while Bai Sheng calmly looked at him, thinking that Shen Zhuo’s face wouldn’t allow him to ask why he didn’t feel anything unusual after sleeping with him. But if he did ask, I’ll just say it’s because my bedding technique is particularly good and gentle.

Unexpectedly, after a few minutes of silence, Shen Zhuo put down his hand from his chin, picked up a piece of fish with his chopsticks, and calmly said:

“At this point, let’s eat first.”

Bai Sheng: “?!?”

Shouldn’t he? His mental fortitude is so strong. Is he brewing up something big?

Even Bai Sheng began to feel uneasy, but given the delicate situation, he couldn’t disrupt the balance. He could only pretend that nothing was wrong and silently eat his meal while constantly glancing at the Chief Supervisor sitting across from him, trying to glean any clues from his cold and elegant face.

The squirrel-shaped mandarin fish was sweet and tender, the ham and winter mushroom dish was savory and delicious, the soup with meatballs was delicate and exquisite, and even the fried rice was distinct grain by grain. Shen Zhuo obviously enjoyed today’s dishes; his appetite was much better than yesterday. He leisurely ate a bowl of rice and even took the time to praise the superb knife skills of the S-class.

Bai Sheng modestly said he needed to improve, then subtly probed, “Darling, would you like more? Are you feeling okay?”

Shen Zhuo replied, “I’m fine, why do you ask?”

“Just… that…” Bai Sheng hesitated.

“Oh, I’m fine.” Shen Zhuo smiled faintly, “It’s probably because your bedding is particularly good and gentle, my dear.”

“…”

Bai Sheng’s current feeling was like stepping on a cloud—soft and light, yet at any moment it could unleash lightning and thunder, making him unable to stop doubting.

“Thank you; it tastes great.” Shen Zhuo stood up, casually saying, “Let me help you clean up.”

“Oh, no need; how can I let you do that? I’ll take care of it.” Bai Sheng immediately stacked the dishes and turned calmly into the kitchen.

Shen Zhuo was just being polite, with no intention of actually helping. He sat back down calmly and checked his work email on his phone, ensuring he hadn’t sent any misleading emails to the International Supervision General Administration during his lapse of memory. Everything seemed normal for work for now. He then casually checked his work on WeChat and, unsurprisingly, found a new contact—Bai Sheng.

There was no need to guess; he must have added it himself last night.

Shen Zhuo, someone who rarely opens his moments, found himself almost intrigued as he opened Bai Sheng’s circle. The latest post was a nine-grid photo of their dinner. With the filter enhancing it, the squirrel-shaped mandarin fish looked exceptionally professional and perfect. The caption read:

【Shen Supervision insisted on having it, so I had no choice but to make it from scratch. It turned out better than expected. [Heart][Hehe][Hehe]】

Half an hour passed, but this terrifying caption left the entire supervision office too intimidated to dare like it.

Shen Zhuo glanced from the dining room to the kitchen, where Bai Sheng had donned a black T-shirt, washing dishes earnestly with a serious expression, a lollipop dangling from his mouth. If the tuft of white hair on his head had a mind of its own, it would probably be forming a question mark right now.

“…,” Shen Zhuo’s eyes flashed with a teasing light, “Looks like Chu-ge has quite a bit of drama.”

Considering Bai Sheng’s character, who seemed to handle chaos with ease, if Shen Zhuo reacted strongly, Bai Sheng might have been able to take advantage of the situation. He might even have been able to sweet talk his way into Shen Zhuo’s good graces tonight, perhaps even coaxing him with sweet words.

But unexpectedly, Shen Zhuo remained completely unfazed, maintaining his calm demeanor, which left Bai Sheng feeling as if he couldn’t get a grip on a tiger who refused to pounce.

He couldn’t be this calm, could he?

Is it logical for him to accept me as his boyfriend?

After finishing cleaning up, Bai Sheng crunched on his lollipop, full of doubts yet cautious. He embraced Shen Zhuo and helped him with some work for a while, then checked the time and went to take a shower. As he showered, he pondered the feasibility of turning the pretense into reality.

The first step of the pretense would definitely be finding a way to get Shen Zhuo onto the same bed. But Bai Sheng was shocked when he came out of the shower to find Shen Zhuo already lying on the master bed, leaning against the headboard, and reading a summary of the HRG project materials.

In that instant, Bai Sheng’s mouth went dry, and his back muscles tensed. Shen Zhuo casually set down the materials and asked, “Aren’t you going to sleep?”

“!”

This sentence sounded like a nuclear bomb in Chu-ge’s ears. Bai Sheng’s blood rushed downward, his muscles tensed, and his ears burned hot. He clumsily climbed onto the bed.

Shen Zhuo turned off the light. “Let’s sleep.” Then he calmly lay down.

“…”

The S-class night vision was enough for Bai Sheng to see everything clearly, including Shen Zhuo’s arm outside the covers. His arm was long and smooth, with a graceful curve at the wrist, thin yet powerful, sending shivers down Bai Sheng’s spine.

He involuntarily stretched out his palm, knowing that he could easily capture those wrists with just one hand, and then indulged in everything soft and dripping that followed.

The tough and iron-blooded Chief Supervisor, a beauty that the world admired but couldn’t touch.

“…,” The blood all over Bai Sheng’s whole body felt hot, unable to help but cough, his voice almost hoarse from the heat, “Shen Zhuo?”

“Hmm?”

“Don’t you have anything you want to ask me?”

As if suddenly remembering something, Shen Zhuo said, “Yes.”

Bai Sheng: “Huh?”

“Let’s break up. I feel like you’re not good enough.”

Bai Sheng’s entire mind went blank for a moment. “…Huh?!”

“S-class pheromones can influence the self-will of ordinary people through specific behaviors. According to calculations, after the first intimate contact, ordinary people will experience a period of submission lasting from 24 to 72 hours, becoming extremely dependent on their S-class partners to the extent of losing independent will. The duration of submission depends on the strength of the S-class pheromones, with the strongest pheromones capable of extending the submission period to a week.”

“…”

“I didn’t expect you to be so weak.” Shen Zhuo thoughtfully rubbed his chin, “It’s better to end it as soon as possible.”

He turned over, but the next moment, he was forcefully turned over again. The force was terrifying. Bai Sheng then firmly pressed him down, pinching his chin with one hand, his tone containing hot and hoarse laughter, “Were you playing with me all night?”

Shen Zhuo laughed, trying to lean back to avoid the scorching breath, “Playing with you? Isn’t it about being patient and gentle… Ah!”

“You seem quite spirited, Inspector,” Bai Sheng’s S-class eyes gleamed like a wolf king in the darkness, leaning over Shen Zhuo’s ear and laughing softly, “Or is it because I touched you?”

The intermittent kisses raised the temperature to a steamy haze, blurring even the concept of time to its limits. Shen Zhuo lowered his head, gritting his teeth tightly, his forehead pressing against the hollow of Bai Sheng’s neck with force. Yet, he was forced to tilt his neck upward by the black hair at the back of his head, controlled by the S-class. His usually icy-white face seemed soaked, even the depths of his pupils brimming with moisture.

With Bai Sheng holding his wet earlobe in his mouth, he ambiguously asked, “How’s my service attitude?”

The next moment, the bullet was loaded with a click, the gun muzzle pressing against Bai Sheng’s jawbone. Shen Zhuo trembled from his tone to his fingertips, his sweet breath difficult to suppress, “You’d better stop now, or I’ll…”

All strength seemed drained away, as if a tide with a subtle electric current washed over his entire body.

Bai Sheng easily disarmed him, removed the magazine, and casually tossed the empty gun under the bed onto the carpet.

Shen Zhuo trembled, closing his eyes as he gasped heavily, tears soaking his eyelashes, making them even thicker. Bai Sheng gripped his throat so tightly that it almost lifted his neck, his deep voice tinged with mockery, “You’re already trying to burn the bridge before you’ve crossed the river, huh?”

Shen Zhuo was well aware of the kind of person Bai Sheng was, but there was still an instinctive tremor of vulnerability in the face of such a formidable threat, an involuntary show of weakness.

“…Don’t make trouble.” He hooked his hand around the back of Bai Sheng’s neck, his rapid breaths unrelenting, his voice low as he whispered into the S-class’s ear, “That period of submission, it’s too long. At least, it’s not the right time now…”

“At least, not now.”

It was like writing a blank check or casually making a promise without any real intention behind it, yet Bai Sheng still happily bought it, and just chuckled briefly.

“Well, then, you better make it up to me. Whisper a few sweet words to me and sincerely make me happy.”

He squeezed Shen Zhuo’s hand, everything in the dimness a chaotic blur, smiling softly as he added, “Otherwise, I’ll make sure you spend ten days or half a month in that subservient state, sitting on top of me every day, with not a moment of clarity.”
