Chapter 24

“Shen Zhuo, you can’t do this to me…”

Tap, tap, tap.

Shen Zhuo’s leather shoes stepped on each cement step, emitting a stable echo.

Outside the building, numerous cars screeched to a halt one after another, and a team of inspectors rushed in. They followed behind Shen Zhuo, each fully armed and with solemn expressions.

From all directions, whispers of evolutionists with hostile intentions floated: “Shenhai City Chief Supervisor…” “What are they here for, to encircle us?” “It doesn’t seem like it…”

Shen Zhuo paid no attention to everything around him.

Although it was his first time here, he seemed to already know the internal layout of this unfinished building like the back of his hand, not needing any guidance at all. He went straight to the top floor, pushing open the door.

Chen Miao shed noodle-like tears: “Supervisor!”

Bai Sheng, with a face full of both excitement and surprise: “Inspector!”

“Why did you destroy the vehicles of our country’s foreign ministry embassy, Chief Supervisor Shen Zhuo?!” Kingston was furious, gritting his teeth. “As the Chief Supervisor of the State of New York, I strongly protest and condemn this behavior. I will report it to the International Supervision General Administration—”

Shen Zhuo stopped his steps, looking down at the little foreigner:

“When I taught at Princeton that year, you got high on drugs, and I personally kicked you out of class. Now that we meet again, shouldn’t you call me Professor Shen?”

The surroundings immediately fell silent.

All mouths opened in a shocked “oh” shape.

“…Prof…essor… Shen.” Kingston almost forced these three words out of his throat. If he had a tail, it would have exploded into a ball of fur. “Do I need to remind you that we are both Chief Supervisors now? I have the authority to invite Mr. Bai, a free man, to join the New York Supervision Office—”

Shen Zhuo pointed at Kingston, being concise in his words:

“Arrest him.”

The inspectors, like wolves, didn’t need him to say it a second time. They pounced on the two white bodyguards, pressing them down. Poor Kingston almost died of anger on the spot: “Shen Zhuo, on what grounds are you arresting me? This is an abuse of power! I will report you to the International Supervision General Administration! I will—”

Shen Zhuo didn’t stop his steps, passing by Bai Sheng, who came forward with a polite smile and went straight to the terrified Kingston. In a flash, he grabbed the young man’s slender neck, slamming him against the window sill with a bang.

In full view of the public, the wall cracked loudly. Kingston’s two legs dangled desperately: “Let me go, let me go!!”

Behind him, Bai Sheng, who hadn’t even been glanced at: “…”

“I am one of the United Nations’ ten permanent supervisors, with veto power over any global affairs related to evolutionists, including the appointment and dismissal of supervisors in your ordinary jurisdiction.”

Shen Zhuo slightly leaned forward, his gracefully shaped lips close to Kingston’s ear, whispering each word softly, “If anyone from my side is harmed again, I will strip you naked and hang you in Times Square, just like when you got high, broke into my office, undressed, and tried to seduce me. I personally hung you outside the teaching building window.”

Kingston: “…………”

“Chief Supervisor Shen, no, Professor Shen!” The older bodyguard was on the verge of going crazy, desperately pleading, “Our boss knows he was wrong. Please spare us. We’ll leave Shenhai immediately—”

Before he could finish speaking, Shen Zhuo grabbed Kingston’s neck and exerted force, dragging him out of the window and suspending him in mid-air.

The frantic bodyguard shouted, “We’ll leave Shenhai immediately!” and the angry Kingston yelled, “Shen Zhuo, you can’t do this to me!” In the midst of screams, Shen Zhuo cleanly let go.

“Ahhhhh—”

Kingston fell straight down, and three seconds later, a loud crash echoed from below.

Bang!!

Shen Zhuo patted his suit sleeve, his expression cold as he turned around.

The entire room fell silent, like a field of cicadas suddenly hushed.

“…He didn’t… die, right?” Chen Miao weakly looked out the window. “He didn’t die, right? You don’t necessarily die from this height, right?”

Shen Zhuo said, “Just a broken leg. Call 120 for him.”

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. The two white bodyguards almost cried, and Chen Miao quickly organized first aid and called for an ambulance.

Shen Zhuo casually buttoned his suit jacket with one hand, walked through the silent crowd, and descended the cement stairs. Luo Zhen was waiting by the car at the construction site entrance. Just as he was about to open the car door for him, a hand from behind Shen Zhuo promptly reached and unmistakably pressed against the car door.

“Chief,” Bai Sheng couldn’t help but ask with a suppressed smile, “you come all this way, and you don’t even say hello before leaving?”

“If you can follow without being greeted, can’t I leave without saying hello?” Shen Zhuo responded calmly.

Luo Zhen bowed silently and quickly slipped away.

This was their first meeting in seven days. Since the late-night encounter at the hospital, Shen Zhuo had been busy dealing with the aftermath of the attack on the Quanshan County Health Center. He hadn’t paid any attention to this S-class corner coveted by major supervision offices worldwide.

But the guy in the corner was someone who knew how to seize the opportunity to showcase his own advantages. In just a short time of setting the bait and fishing, he had tidied himself up very neatly. The robust muscle lines were hidden beneath his shirt, giving him the appearance of a handsome and fresh young college student.

“I never thought you actually used to be a teacher…” Bai Sheng smiled, scrutinizing Shen Zhuo for a while before intriguingly commenting.

Shen Zhuo said, “I went for research and also to select talent for HRG. What’s wrong?”

Bai Sheng absentmindedly made a sound of acknowledgment, observing him up and down for a moment, as if trying to make up for the weight he hadn’t seen in the past week. His meaningful gaze lingered on those thin and beautiful lips.

Even though nothing had been done, the warm and entangled breath from behind the hospital room door that night seemed to come again in just an instant, as if even the corners of the lips felt the electrifying bite.

Shen Zhuo leaned slightly against the car door, subtly tilting backward.

Bai Sheng’s Adam’s apple slid up and down, approaching a bit more, and he softly said, “You actually had the heart to ignore me for a whole week.”

“…”

Shen Zhuo lifted his hand, using two fingers to press against Bai Sheng’s chest, pushing him back a few inches. But then Bai Sheng grasped his wrist.

“Fortunately, that kid Kingston crashed into the door; otherwise, I would have had to go to the entrance of the Shenhai City Supervision Office to protest.” Bai Sheng almost completely trapped Shen Zhuo, lips against his thin earlobe, smiling as he asked, “Do you really want to renege on our deal?”

Shen Zhuo’s throat slid up and down slightly. Maintaining the posture of tilting his head backward, he said, “I came for you today, not for Kingston.”

“Huh?”

Bai Sheng was momentarily stunned by this straightforward statement. Then he saw Shen Zhuo reach behind and open the car door, taking a step to the side.

Immediately, a familiar figure emerged from the car. She was enticingly beautiful on the left side of her face and skull-like on the right. It was none other than Witch Italdo.

“I’m taking her to the central district for some business. We’re leaving this afternoon.” Shen Zhuo casually adjusted his clothing, as if nothing had happened, and said, “I want you to join us.”

Bai Sheng was just about to say, “Sure, sure,” but then he hesitated, his thoughts shifting. Standing in place, he chuckled, arms crossed, “I’m just an unaffiliated, unpaid civilian volunteer. I don’t even have a place to claim reimbursement for travel expenses. Why should I go?”

Shen Zhuo gestured to Italdo, signaling her to do something.

Bai Sheng: “?”

Witch Italdo raised a phone and pressed the play button on the recording. Soon after, Bai Sheng heard his own voice coming from it:

“If it weren’t for finding the daily pay of 2.08 million too little, I would have joined the entertainment industry long ago and brought an Oscar back to our country… Beauty, it’s just us here. Help me dig up some information on my rivals, and I’ll buy you Chanel. Deal?

The witch opened Baidu Baike, entered “Chanel,” and illuminated the phone, pointing to the prominent double-C logo on the screen, curiously asking, “Is this what you were talking about?”

Click!

A lightning bolt of memory struck, enlightening the rich second-generation kid. Suddenly, he remembered this colossal debt that transcended cosmic races.

“Spending so much on an outdated gossip that’s already in the trash can, the meager salary in the system must not be appealing to you.” Shen Zhuo’s lips curled as he opened the car door, making a gesture: “Get in and bring your bank card.”

Bai Sheng: “…………”
