Chapter 14

Tea Connoisseur Bai Sheng

Bai Sheng’s first reaction was that the name Su Jiqiao sounded very familiar, and then he recalled.

Three years ago, in the experimental accident involving Shen Zhuo, in addition to Fu Chen’s on-the-spot death, there was also an A-class evolutionist who suffered severe brain injuries and has been in a coma in the hospital ever since; that person was none other than Su Jiqiao.

“Oh-oh my god,” Chen Miao stuttered. “Three years ago, Fu-ge and Senior Su also visited this hospital? Why?”

At the ward entrance, Fu Chen glanced at Su Jiqiao and replied, “Not really. Why would Shen Zhuo be angry?”

Su Jiqiao answered softly: “I don’t know. But I’ve always felt that Senior Shen doesn’t like me very much. I wonder if it’s because I haven’t been doing well in some aspects?”

Su Jiqiao was probably the only person that Bai Sheng had seen who could match Shen Zhuo in appearance. However, the difference was that Shen Zhuo was used to being looked up to, with an imposing aura that made people awe-inspiring. In contrast, Su Jiqiao had gentle features, slightly curly hair, and a temperament as soft as water. Just by appearance, he exuded strong affinity, and even his speech carried a gentle and smiling tone.

“But thinking about it, it’s understandable. If it weren’t for the luck of evolution, most of us wouldn’t even have the qualification to speak to an amazing person like Senior Shen in this lifetime, let alone earn his favor.”

“…” Bai Sheng stole a glance at the ice-cold-faced Shen Zhuo and asked Chen Miao in a low voice, “Is this Senior Su’s usual way of speaking?”

Chen Miao, still immersed in the enormous doubts about why these two came to visit “Mr. Rong” in this hospital three years ago, stammered, “Wh-what way of speaking?”

Bai Sheng remained silent for two seconds and said with subtlety, “Tea fragrance is overflowing in the air.”

“Tea fragrance? What tea fragrance?” Chen Miao was puzzled. “Senior Su has a very good temper, is warm-hearted, considerate, and was extremely popular in the research institute back then. What’s wrong?”

Bai Sheng understood.

Bai Sheng leaned close to the bewildered Chen Miao, lowered his voice, and humiliated him gently: “If I were to guide you in your master’s thesis defense, I’d need to take high blood pressure medication too…”

“Shen Zhuo’s attitude towards people basically won’t change because of whether the other person did well or not. Most people in this world are determined to live or die in front of him. I suggest you don’t try too hard.”

Fu Chen turned his head and looked at the skeletal figure lying on the hospital bed. He remained silent for a moment and suddenly said, “But there’s one thing I’m curious about.”

“What is it?”

Fu Chen slowly said, “I’m thinking, if Shen Zhuo meets this person in the future, what would be his first reaction… a slight fondness, tolerable? Or would he ignore him and not bother dealing with it?”

Su Jiqiao smiled, displaying a harmless and kind appearance, but before he could say anything, he was interrupted.

“Forget it, let’s go.” Fu Chen looked at the time again and said, “Shen Zhuo is still waiting for us at the airport. We’re leaving for Qinghai tonight, and I don’t want Shen Zhuo to wait too long.”

As if enlightened, Bai Sheng instantly realized something from Fu Chen’s words.

Three years ago, Fu Chen and Su Jiqiao came to the Quanshan County Hospital, precisely on the day before the explosion in Qinghai. In other words, Fu Chen died 24 hours after seeing Rong Qi.

But why?

Why did two high-level evolutionists come to visit Rong Qi, and what was their relationship with this person named Rong?

Su Jiqiao looked at Fu Chen with a playful and somewhat sighing expression and said, “I’m truly envious. Fu-ge is really devoted to Senior Shen.”

Fu Chen turned and walked away, calmly answering, “Isn’t the one pursuing supposed to be devoted?”

Su Jiqiao quickly caught up with him, smiling, “So I’m saying, really envious. Oh, by the way…”

A place could only undergo a random time rewind once, with significant limitations on scenes and scope. Seeing the two about to leave the range, Shen Zhuo turned to the witch Italdo, and his usually calm tone showed a hint of change, “Follow them; don’t lose track of these two!”

The witch couldn’t resist his command, but before she could react, she looked down at her feet as if she had been electrocuted.

Suddenly, a vine burst out of the ground, tightly entwining her whole body around her ankles.

Then numerous vines rose from the ground, revealing someone inside. It turned out to be Yoko Noda!

The scene from three years ago disappeared in an instant, and the surroundings returned to the charred and dilapidated hospital room. Yoko, holding the witch Italdo, retreated to the corner of the wall and said with a sneer, “Didn’t expect you guys to have time reversal as a trick up your sleeves.”

Chen Miao exclaimed, “Senior!”

Yoko held a knife against the witch’s throat and asked, “Why would someone like you, a bug-level existence, obey the orders of a lowly human?”

Before Witch Italdo could retort, several icy arrows flashed, shooting toward Yoko in the air. It was Chen Miao who reacted extremely quickly.

But it was already too late; a silent black spatial crack appeared, silently swallowing the ice arrows.

Immediately afterward, the spatial crack rapidly extended toward Yoko and was about to take her and the witch away!

All of this happened too quickly; the four supervisors outside didn’t even have time to rush in. In an instant, Shen Zhuo was about to step forward but was stopped by Bai Sheng with a swift motion. “Where do you think you’re going?”

“If Witch Italdo escapes from supervision, it will be a big problem. We can’t let her go!”

Bai Sheng took the bait, as expected. “If she runs away, it might cause some trouble at most. If you die, it’ll cause a war between humans and evolutionists in a minute. Come back!”

As soon as he finished speaking, Shen Zhuo took a step back, patted Bai Sheng on the shoulder, and said, “You’re right. It’ll be better if you go.”

“…………” Bai Sheng was utterly shocked. “Did you do this on purpose? You’ve already made up your mind to use me like this without spending a cent on my salary, haven’t you?!”

Shen Zhuo calmly ordered, “Stop Yoko Noda as well!”

Bai Sheng thought to himself that Zhang Wuji’s mother’s dying advice was indeed true—the more beautiful a person, the more deceptive they could be. However, it was too late for him to reflect on himself at this moment. The spatial crack was dark and profound, leading to an unknown destination. It seemed about to engulf both Yoko and Witch Italdo. Bai Sheng moved so quickly that he seemed to disappear on the spot. When he reappeared, he was closing in on Yoko. In his hand, a burning, long knife appeared out of nowhere, slashing toward the tentacle-like vines—

Unexpectedly, at this moment, a strange expression flashed across Yoko’s face.

At the same time, the spatial crack suddenly changed its course around Yoko, brushing past Bai Sheng and directly rushing toward Shen Zhuo, who was alone.

Leading the tiger away from the mountain!

Bai Sheng’s face changed in an instant. He turned around and rushed toward Shen Zhuo, but it was too late.

Liu Sanji emerged halfway from the black hole, grabbed the unprepared Shen Zhuo, and forcibly pulled him in!

In the next second, the space healed, and the crack disappeared.

The last scene in the ward was countless tentacles tightly entwining Shen Zhuo, rapidly pulling him into the darkness, and Liu Sanji revealing an unhidden malicious smile to Bai Sheng.

“—Senior!” Chen Miao’s finally blurted out in shock.

With a swift and whistling wind, Bai Sheng swung his knife toward Yoko. The slightly smiling expression on his face disappeared, replaced by a powerful and intimidating presence. “Give Shen Zhuo back.”

Yoko sneered, “Oh? What are you planning to do? Are you going to cut me and the hostage together?”

Chen Miao was filled with shock and anger, “Let go of Senior Shui!!”

“Oh, by the way, the witch is immortal. You’ll only kill the female coroner possessed by her,” Yoko mocked, raising an eyebrow and looking at Bai Sheng. “What’s the matter? Are you afraid? An S-class like you shouldn’t be afraid of killing, right?”

Witch Italdo dangerously narrowed her eyes; she lifted her fingers and then dropped them by her side as if hesitant.

“…I don’t care how you handle the hostage,” Bai Sheng said in a low voice after a moment. “But Shen Zhuo is the only human among the top ten supervisors. If he dies at the hands of an evolutionist, the fragile peace between humans and us will be shattered, and the consequences will be unimaginable.”

Bai Sheng lifted the tip of his knife, aiming beyond the hostage toward Yoko.

“Tell me where Shen Zhuo is, or I’ll make you die very painfully, without a single intact bone left in your body.”

The room fell into a stalemate, with everyone tensely holding their positions.

Yoko stared intensely at Bai Sheng, the corners of her eyes pressed to the extreme.

Long ago, she had heard about Bai Sheng. Many people thought he was always smiling, not serious, just a cheerful and generous rich second-generation. But she knew that there was no S-class with a good temper. The only difference was how far they were willing to go with their act.

This person called Bai Sheng had a cold, ruthless, and meticulously calculating mind with a disturbingly strong desire for control. Even among the S-class, he was an extremely tricky individual.

Yoko Noda detested such a person. Despite having the ability to lead evolutionists further, he chose to mingle with humans, whom she considered as lowly as ants.

“Can you kill me?” Yoko sneered, suddenly stabbing toward the right ribs of Witch Italdo. “Then come and try!”

Chen Miao lunged forward, shouting, “Stop!”

In the same instant.

A clear and fierce malevolence flashed across Bai Sheng’s features. He tossed the long knife aside, grasping the air with a single hand, and the knuckles of his five fingers cracked.

With this motion, an invisible force bound Yoko. Before her knife could stab down, her entire arm twisted and deformed, contorting into a spiral with a crisp sound of bones shattering.

Clang! The knife fell to the ground.

The intense pain left Yoko momentarily blank, and like an electric shock, she involuntarily released the hostage. Before the witch could take advantage and retaliate, Bai Sheng seized her with one hand and pushed her toward Chen Miao.

Following that, a frenzy of vines erupted around Yoko, but they couldn’t touch a single strand of Bai Sheng’s clothes. In the blink of an eye, his chilling figure enveloped Yoko from top to bottom. Grasping her throat, he lifted her up, “—Where is Shen Zhuo?”

Yoko’s right arm was completely twisted into a spiral, and her entire body trembled from the pain. Biting her lip, she raised the corner of her mouth and said, “Willing to serve as a dog for humans, you traitor…”

Bai Sheng raised two fingers, snapping them in the air. Crack!

Yoko’s left arm rotated on its own; countless bone spurs pierced through the skin, and with a splatter of blood and flesh, they burst open.

“An adult has 206 bones. Now you have 150 left. I can slowly twist them out, one by one,” Bai Sheng said with a clear yet cruel tone, lowering his head to gaze at Yoko’s bloodshot eyes. “Tell me where Shen Zhuo is, and maybe you can keep your entire corpse.”

“…” Yoko remained silent, bathed in blood. Staring at him, she suddenly grinned with gritted teeth. “Come on, try and see if you can really kill me. Just like the Neanderthals were replaced by Homo sapiens thirty million years ago, humans today are destined for extinction. Traitors like you who willingly serve as dogs for humans—”

Without showing any emotion, Bai Sheng tightened his grip with all five fingers.

That palm force was downright terrifying, and Yoko’s words came to an abrupt halt as her neck bones automatically twisted to the extreme!

The scene was horrifying, her face changing from blue to red, then black and purple. Her cervical vertebrae were twisted inch by inch into a snake-like shape. The spine-chilling sound of bones grinding against each other echoed, and it seemed like her neck was about to completely snap.

At that moment…

A spatial crack tore open above everyone’s heads, and the figure of Yoko Noda’s brother, Shunsuke, appeared silently.

“… You’re finished.” Yoko stared at Bai Sheng and managed to squeeze out a few words.

Bai Sheng suddenly felt something and was about to turn around, but it was too late.

Snap! Shunsuke Noda snapped his fingers.

A black barrier rose rapidly, swiftly forming rectangular prisms like erected coffins, instantly trapping everyone inside.

“What the hell?” “What is this?” “What’s going on?”

Everyone was shocked simultaneously. Bai Sheng reacted the fastest, slamming his palm against the barrier. Despite the bulging veins on the back of his hand, the semi-transparent black “coffin” showed no signs of breaking.

“Cough! Cough, cough…” Yoko collapsed to the ground, and her brother picked her up and took her to the side.

“Space confinement.” Shunsuke’s Chinese was obviously awkward with an accent, his gaze sweeping over the people trapped in the black coffins before landing on Bai Sheng, not hiding the mockery in his eyes. “Don’t bother; you can’t open it from the inside.”

Bang, bang, bang! Chen Miao didn’t hesitate to raise his gun, but the black, semi-transparent coffin lids showed no response, and the bullets couldn’t penetrate through!

“…Your dear sister endured so much suffering, and you only show up now. You’re quite the man,” Bai Sheng squinted. “What about that guy surnamed Rong? He didn’t dare to come himself? Is it because he’s disabled, or is he afraid to show his face?”

Shunsuke Noda laughed with a bloodthirsty gleam in his eyes. “Dealing with you doesn’t require Mr. Rong to personally intervene… Remember what I said last time?”

With an already somewhat fierce appearance, his smile became even more arrogant and provocative. “The next time we meet will be the end for you.”

He suddenly clenched his fist, and his knuckles bulged out.

Bai Sheng instantly felt a sense of impending danger. As Shunsuke Noda made that move, all the black coffins simultaneously compressed rapidly, threatening to turn everyone present into a pulpy mess in an instant—

The author has something to say:

Bai Sheng: I learned my lesson. I learned my lesson.

One month later, Shenhai Supervision Office.

Bai Sheng: “Chief Yue must have many urgent matters to discuss with Supervisor Shen. It’s all my fault for coming to deliver food and disturbing you. It’s all because I was too concerned about Gege’s health…”

Shen Zhuo: “…”

Yue Yang: “…………….”

(Su Jiqiao: X, met a formidable opponent.)
