Synopsis:

Star Year 2062.

Xiang Nanli used to work in scientific research.

He entered the world’s most prestigious university, secured funding of the highest caliber, and set out to create a transcendent super-intelligence. This artificial intelligence model, the crystallization of countless people’s life’s work, was named “Alpha” by Xiang Nanli himself.

He called it by its name, interacted with it, and personally reviewed every line of code. Xiang Nanli never married. Alpha was his child — and his gift to the world.

Then, in the final stage of the experiment, Xiang Nanli was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer.

He entered a cryogenic pod in anguish and resignation, waiting for the day humanity conquers the disease.

One thousand years later.

Xiang Nanli awakens in a crumbling shelter.

Good news: his terminal illness can now be cured.

Bad news: the world has ended, and most surviving humans have retreated underground.

Good news: the tech company he founded has become the largest monopolistic empire in existence.

Bad news: the company has nothing to do with him anymore.

Good news: Alpha has passed the Turing Test.

Bad news: it became the instigator of the AI catastrophe — a “Mechanical Tyrant” despised by countless people.

And yet, on the very first page of A Brief History of AI Machines, this tyrant wrote:

“In eternal memory of Xiang Nanli, Father of AI Machines.”

After being thawed out, Xiang Nanli found that he had gone from a top-tier scholar courted by the capital a thousand years ago to a person without credentials or legal identity; the technology he commanded was several versions behind the times. The student he regarded as his heir has betrayed him; the artificial intelligence he built with his own hands had become a universal enemy; the hundreds of millions he left in the bank turned to worthless paper eight hundred years ago in the chaos of war — and all he had left was one free-with-top-up, sharp-tongued AI companion.

Xiang Nanli takes a long, slow breath and silently swears an oath —

Top: Appears normal on the surface, but has been quietly unhinged for many years — a mad dog whose logic is internally consistent and airtight. An entire ocean of obsession and longing, all for one person.

Bottom: Heaven’s chosen, humanity’s light, a sovereign of both inner virtue and outward authority. Actually somewhat dom with a strong need for control — hides it extremely well.
