Chapter 156: Beach Wedding

Huo Zhenfei walked out of the Huo Group building first, and a group of reporters swarmed up, holding all kinds of microphones and cameras, looking as if they were about to devour someone.

Huo Niansheng followed closely behind, with his hands in his pockets, calm and unhurried: “It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this scene since I got married and settled down.”

Huo Zhenfei glanced at him, smiling slightly, and squeezed out a voice from between his teeth—

“Today, you’re walking out of the company door, representing the image of the Huo family.”

Huo Niansheng made an OK gesture below: “Alright, alright, I won’t talk nonsense.”

As they spoke, the two of them were surrounded by a crowd, and security personnel struggled to keep the crowd and the microphones at bay.

“Mr. Huo Niansheng, there are rumors outside that you’re getting married, is it true?”

“Yes, everyone, rejoice with us.”

“But there are also rumors that you’ve already registered abroad?”

“You seem to know very well, don’t you?”

“Is your union more about emotions or considerations of interest?”

“Following our hearts.”

“Does he mind your many past relationships?”

“Please don’t intentionally provoke family conflicts.”

There was a slight chuckle from the crowd, and the microphones were aimed at the other side at the same time.

“Mr. Huo Zhenfei, can we ask about the Huo family’s stance on this matter?”

“This is a family matter, no comment.”

“When you say that, does it mean you’re expressing dissatisfaction?”

“He’s an adult, his choices don’t need family interference, I respect my cousin’s personal freedom.”

The two continued forward, with questioning voices still ongoing behind them. A small reporter, taking advantage of his small size, tried to squeeze through the blockade but was pushed down by the crowd, falling heavily forward, and with a thud, the microphone slipped from his hand.

Huo Niansheng paused slightly, and the microphone happened to hit his heel.

He turned around, bent down to pick it up, still with one hand in his pocket, and extended the other forward. In full view of everyone, the reporters quickly got up, rubbing their palms stained with blood and mud, and took back the microphone: “Thank you, Young Master Huo, for your kindness.”

Huo Niansheng smiled faintly: “You should thank my beloved for leading by example. They say, ‘Associate with the virtuous and you will become virtuous; associate with the wicked and you will become wicked.’ He has many kind virtues, and after living with him for a long time, I must also be somewhat influenced—remember to include this sentence in your report.”

The nearby crowd chuckled again.

The determined small reporter thrust the microphone in front of him: “Can you tell us more about your spouse?”

Huo Niansheng tilted his head slightly, looking behind him: “Is this cameraman with you?”

Facing the camera, Huo Niansheng showed a playful smile, his body language relaxed, but his eyes were very profound:

“Thanks to everyone’s love, I know you’ve always been interested in my private life and have concocted all sorts of stories. If someday I decide to have a biography written, it would surely be quite colorful. I don’t care much about trivial matters, and everyone is free to speculate.

“But my beloved has integrity and is one in a million, it wasn’t easy for me to win them over, and the hardships involved are not something outsiders need to know. So the one thing I absolutely can’t tolerate is anyone trying to sow discord in our relationship. If you really want to approach me, let’s have a drink and become friends. But my advice is, don’t disturb his life, don’t try to slander his character, and don’t use any salacious methods to describe him. If anyone causes him harm, then I can only apologize in advance—good luck to you all.”

“When you say that, does it mean…”

“That’s enough; today’s interview ends here. Please,  media friends, restrain your enthusiasm.” Huo Zhenfei timely concluded, “For any developments regarding the Huo Group, please pay attention to the official media releases. We have other matters to attend to, goodbye.”

The two got into the car one after the other, with Huo Zhenfei rubbing his forehead.

Huo Niansheng glanced at his expression while scrolling through his phone, and smiled, “I didn’t say anything out of line, did I?”

“I used to suspect you were a bit of an oddball, but I never thought you were actually a romantic.”

“Is that a compliment?”

“At least thank this romantic guy for not choosing some unsavory life partner. Where are you going?”

“Home. Drop me off at the intersection of Taiping Street Market, and I’ll walk the rest of the way.”

“You’re really into living a civilian life now, huh?”

“I bought some seafood; it ran out at home.”

Chen Wengang opened the door with a key and walked into the study, where two big hands were tightly covering something underneath.

He looked up at Huo Niansheng, who smiled and gestured, “Guess what’s inside?”

Chen Wengang’s eyebrows and eyes curled up, “You’re not trying to trick me again, are you?”

Huo Niansheng raised an eyebrow and said, “This time I’m really showing you something good.”

He let go of the hands, and a blue butterfly made of a paperclip flew up, brushing past Chen Wengang’s hair and fluttering away.

It was a simple mechanism made with a rubber band, drawing a parabola and landing at Halley’s feet.

Halley, originally excited to follow inside, seemed startled, curious yet cautious as he approached, sniffing around.

Chen Wengang picked it up, rewound the mechanism, and as he let go, the butterfly flew up again.

Halley barked with joy, lifting his head and chasing after it.

Chen Wengang hurriedly cautioned, “Gently, don’t bite it.”

The reporters didn’t follow to Jiangchao Street, but that evening, Huo Niansheng’s public confession made it to the front page headlines of websites.

Many pages were accompanied by pictures, the earliest released by a portal site, and the most widely circulated one was this—Huo Niansheng facing the camera, smiling and chatting with the person in front of him, while Chen Wengang smiled brightly, a rare side profile shot.

Chen Wengang and Huo Niansheng walked back, lifted the curtain of the dessert shop, and entered.

Mrs. Zhou happened to be in the shop and brought two bowls of sesame paste, “When are you planning to hold the wedding?”

“We’ve chosen the beginning of next month.”

“That’s quite soon.”

“Yeah, after all, we’re not going all out like others. We’re just having a ceremony, don’t want to drag it out too long.”

Saying it’s not going all out may not be entirely accurate, at least in terms of wedding arrangements, the planning team did a perfect job. They rented out an entire beach venue, but the guest list was quite low-key, with hardly any celebrities, only relatives and close friends attending.

The night before the wedding, the two stayed in the presidential suite of a nearby five-star hotel.

The room was luxurious, but Chen Wengang slept very lightly, probably too excited, waking up almost every two hours.

Dreams came one after another, he felt as if he were a primary school student, coming home from school, busy parents still not back, but he didn’t feel sad. He skipped out the door, knowing there was a big brother living next door, and they had a gentle big wolfhound at home. He ran into the open door next door like usual, and the wolfhound came over joyfully to lick him. The neighbor brother was good at his studies and was a good person, he put down his book and asked Chen Wengang to bring his schoolbag, set up a small table, and watched him sit on a small stool to do his homework.

Chen Wengang opened his eyes, and Huo Niansheng kissed his forehead and said, “Get up.”

The dawn was breaking outside the window, Chen Wengang hugged his neck and affectionately nuzzled him, “I love you.”

The makeup artist set up a table of bottles and jars, brushing away with small brushes on the faces. Chen Wengang got his makeup done first, then watched as she started to work on Huo Niansheng. She applied the foundation, then Huo Niansheng suddenly asked for the eyebrow pencil and proceeded to draw Huo Niansheng’s eyebrows himself.

Huo Niansheng didn’t say anything, just smiled faintly, watching him in the mirror.

Because no outsiders were invited, the guests at the scene seemed a bit sparse, but all were smiling. The wedding was kept secret, with no media invited, and the security team rigorously checked the invitations, not even allowing any extra bees inside. The ceremony was held in the center of a white marble square, with a deep blue glass walkway, arches decorated with shells and flower petals, and white chairs adorned with hemp ropes and starfish.

Photographer Chris met with them again, with a senior videographer following them throughout, responsible for documenting the wedding.

Chen Wengang wore a formal suit, with a blue sapphire brooch on his chest, echoing the sea color behind him.

On the large screen, the wedding photos of the two were played in a loop. As he passed by underneath, with one hand in his pocket, he looked up. Zheng Baoqiu came over, laughing when she saw him, “With your posture, you really look like our cousin from afar.”

“Really?” Chen Wengang smiled and reached out to adjust her sun hat.

“That’s reasonable too. It’s said that the longer two people live together, the more they resemble each other.”

“In your opinion, is there anywhere he looks like me?”

Zheng Baoqiu burst into laughter, “Probably, like the newspapers say, learning to be a good person like you!”

Chen Xiangling flew back from Singapore specifically, giving Chen Wengang a big hug. Chen Wengang patted her and asked her to take Jiang Cai to the back to watch. Lu Chenlong brought his little brother, Xiao Bao, over to play in the open space. Yu Shanding was busy on both sides; on the one hand, managing the food and drink was his own team, on the other hand, the guests from Huo Niansheng’s side were also familiar to him, so he naturally helped with reception.

Li Hongqiong and her friends came together, but there was an extra gift, “Sent by Qi Tongzhou.”

Chen Wengang asked, “Is he okay?”

She smiled, “What could be wrong? He’s spoiled by his parents at home, adored by his older siblings, successfully graduated, and doesn’t have to worry about work. It’s just a little emotional setback, he should learn to grow up. You focus on your wedding, don’t worry about him.”

At the beginning of the ceremony, there was a small mishap.

The host asked both sides to tell the story of how they came together, handed the microphone to Chen Wengang first, but the speaker suddenly malfunctioned, emitting a piercing noise. It took the staff two minutes to replace it with a good one. This was considered a work error, and the main planner’s face looked a bit embarrassed.

Chen Wengang smiled tolerantly, raised his hand to take the microphone, “It’s okay.” He joked, “Not everything can be perfect, some mistakes are destined to happen.”

There was laughter from the audience.
